What gets me tho, is that people here are defending one company over a another company instead of looking at the bigger picture of what happens to our data.
And we cannot change this. Sad, but true. Our options are go Luddite and live as the Amish do, or accept this new reality, because no amount of activism is going to change what the elites do with our data. None. Riots in the streets? Won't change anything. Targeted eliminations of executives? Won't change anything. Voting (*LOL*)? Won't change anything.
Yelling on Steam, "Why can't you people see!!?" It might make you feel like you're the only one that's got it figured out, and it might make you feel better to yell about it, but most of us see it too, and realize that we can't change what is beyond our control. So please, for your health, stop worrying. It won't add a day to your life.
well said and correct...
Thats what happens when you've got no competition in operating systems
Most are not. But unlike Valve, Epic Games actually did not uphold the GDPR etc. I have no doubt, they will collect as much as they can, all of them. But when you have a company like Epic Games, that not only does the "subtle" and "you have to agree to this" kinda stuff, but also hack your steam API etc, take your personal information such as CC etc and resell, then it becomes problematic.
Again.. While Valve and many others have been dragged to EU law, none of them have been more there than Epic Games (in the digital world) Epic Games actually prompted new laws in the EU!!!!
Again. Plenty of other do as well, but Epic games is not a safe client, it has on purpose made sure to be as lackluster (low cost) as possible, so that they can maintain their (we offer larger cut) a cut that the developer never see anyway (it is the rich shareholders in publishers that do that)
Tim Sweeney even said himself, that if they had to put in as many features as Steam ie, they would have to up the cut significantly.. Epic Games, owns alot from collecting data, what is more problematic is that it is often kids (sometimes below 13) that is why EU went so hard after them.
Precisely. A lot of Stean fanboys will hate on Epic, when really it has the same downfalls as every other client out there, including those outside the gaming industry. I appreciate Epic for what it is.
It is not blind hate, it is founded in facts and standpoints.
Again. I don't like everything about steam either, infact I disliked it alot when it first came out! We can also talk about many other problematic things about it, but breaking the GDPR is not one of them, it is at Epic Games.
Personally if I don't wanted the stuff for us (the customer) forums, workshops, profiles, chat functions, wishlist, integration of various hardware, RP, etc etc etc etc etc.. Then I would just go GoG (they are far superior than Epic Games on the, don't give to much features part)
My point here is. Why would you even be here talking on the forum, if you rather use Epic's model? (they wanna make this into a console like market) without all the perks for the customers.. Essentially, the lower cut is just all the perks we get here, taken away from us and instead not given to the developer, but rich shareholders of publishers..
Yes I dislike Epic for doing that, if they actually had similar features, security and customer perks or just wen the GoG way, then I would not mind them at all.
Steam only has refund policy because of australia, It's an exception than a standard because you already consumed the product when you register the key
No. Actually Steam has a refund policy to ease out the process of massive amount of claims to handle from IE EU citizens. Even with the current 2 hour refund policy, you can still get your money back, I know because I have tried it. EU law gives me the rights to it and they know it, no matter what they write in their RP (but then again, steam has a special EU section)
So no.. it is not because of Australia or even EU for that sake, it is because this makes the vast majority of case be automatic and accepted by customers.
more accounts = more data = more money
Nothing is free (only winrar but 7zip is better ^-^)
