(Doctor Who) How do you feel about the first female doctor?
Jodie Whittaker has been announced as the next Doctor. For those of whom still watch doctor who, what do you guys think? Do you believe it is a improvement over Peter Capaldi?

I think the timing is not great.

We just had a female version of The Master, and don't get me wrong I think Missy was fantastic and I really wish The Master didn't shoot herself in the back because I really liked where they were going with that storyline. I mean, we'll see more of them but something is going to change.

Anyway, the timing of doing this right after making Missy a thing kind of feels like they're just treating it as a gimmick now. Jodie Whittaker is going to be facing an uphill battle because she's not going into this as just the first female version of the doctor... she's going into this as Missy 2.0. She's going to have to distinguish herself very quickly to set herself apart or it'll just be "hey look this time the doctor is a woman".

I mean, I just don't think it should have been done so quickly after making Missy a thing because that's fresh on everyone's mind, especially since they made Missy such a major part of the last season. It just feels like it's a thing they're doing to get attention now. Honestly, I'd have greatly preferred it if there hadn't been an announcement. They could have waited till the Christmas special and then dropped the huge shocker on us at the end of it by revealing the new Doctor then. And that would have been much more satisfying.

WTF is going to be the sexuality of the Doctor? He was into girls for thousands of years and what now into dudes? Or the Doc just going full on lesbian or maybe a bit of bi-sexual? Dr Who is the perfect malleable type character for the SJW and progressives to push this Transgender narrative.

Even race is becoming transitional with people like Rachel Dolezal. Whoopi Goldberg she progressive enough for the BBC and kooky enough to be a Doctor type. Come let's go the whole transitional hog.

Can you image a White Dr Female Who transitioning into a Black Dr Female Who. First question after the regeneration “Did I just culturally appropriate myself? Wasn't sexual appropriation bad enough last time?”

Dr Who a once established male character will always be and forever more a transgender character, wtf lol.
You clearly don't understand the show. He was never "in" to any of his companions. In fact, he rejected the love of several of them. Changing his gender (possibly for only a few seasons if it bugs you so much) doesn't change anything. I actually think this could be a cool idea, as I think it could make Nargol (Can't spell his name. He's the fat guy who works with the 12th doctor) flesh out his character more. (He's already one of my favorite companions, so yeah)

I do agree with the Missy bit.

Actually yes. Yes I can. But before I get into that I'll point out that "Dr Who" is not a character. The character's name is "The Doctor" and he has in the past objected to anyone shortening it. Which is kinda funny because he himself switched it to "The Doctor" from "Doctor Who". As a proper name, you don't abbreviate it or re-add old bits not used anymore. It'd be like me calling you "Core G Jacker". But I digress.

Anyway, yes I can see the character changing to a different race. Or at the very least having an accent that doesn't originate on the British islands. Seriously, all of time and space and yet in spite of being from another planet he's always got some kind of British accent?

I can see that being a thing that happens because as a fan of the show, I understand the lore behind the regeneration process and why that's a normal thing to happen... Which curiously doesn't ever seem to happen.

I don't think it's really all that necessary or desirable for people to jump on this issue to soap box their political opinions. Especially if they're not familiar with how the show works or what the characters are even called. I think this thread will be far more meaningful if we stick to discussion about the show itself, and what this means for the show.

The Joke is Dr Who is literally Dr Who now that is why I used Dr Who instead of the Doctor.

Nah it makes no sense to regenerate into a woman or any other racial profile. That is why the last 13 Doctors aren't literally Dr Who (pun intended) and have all been white hetro men.

I am a fan of the show and I know the BBC. So the BBC are ones who are soap boxing their political opinions on the fans. No different to Marvel and DC SJW BS we see all the time.

You still haven't said what's wrong with the idea. While it was poorly timed, I don't see the reason why it stops people from enjoying the show.

Then there is the fact that there have been multiple multiethnic companions, so your argument makes no sense.

Oh Plz he was into women with all those women companions and had the hots for Rose, but whimped out like a typical beta male cuck. Comedy gold he got cucked by human version of himself.

Bugs me? Nah man I going to so love hearing about these progressive trainwreck idea, because it so worked Marvel and DC.

Oh wait? No it didn't, oh well.

He rejected Amy, Clara, Donna, and Martha.

Rose was such a poorly written character its appalling.

It worked well for the Marvel movies. Just look at the massive success Black Panther was in Civil War, but thats besides the point.

Was any of those multiple multiethnic companions transgender or transracial?

Your argument makes no sense.

Again, you have yet to say why a female Doctor "ruins the show". Its a woman, so what? The writing and character development matters way more in the end.

There were multiple "transgender" time lords throughout the show (Several background characters in the 12th doctor's 1st season, Missy, etc).

He did not reject them out of hand and Rose is still cannon, so. The Doctors problem is that he would always outlive his companions, but did you forget River Song. He found the strength to stay with her and not cuck out like beta male.

WTF you going on about Black Panther? Was he Transgender Black Panther the Queen of Wakanda? The kids play him in games and watch him in cartoons he is a established character.

Knowing the people behind the production the BBC. This transgender push is not for artistic reasons. This is to meet a agenda to set a narrative of the progressives and SJW's in the BBC. Ruin is the word you use and even you noticed the creeping narrative, so....

Actually, in Destiny of the Daleks, Romana actually tries out several forms for regeneration, including one The Docter is super excited over when he thinks she regenerated into a copy of him. They also discuss Time Lords changing sex at regeneration several times through out the series, with The Doctor several times checking to make sure that, in addition to still being humanoid, he also happened to be male. The Doctor even talks about an old friend who had regenerated into both sexes several times, The Corsair. Heck, even The Time Lord General admits to having done it. It's not actually a new concept at all. They just, after a million years of the same thing, decided to try something different.

It worked for me. I might actually check the show out again. It actually brings up several very interesting new story and character directions they could go

OMG you found the unicorn one episode from 1979 and so we should of had a Transgender everything from that episode onwards then? What date is it now oh 2017 "OF COURSE"!!!
"Exterminate the doctor. Exterminate. Exterminate. " Seriously, though, I don't care, silly show, watch sometimes for a laugh.

Actually, a lot of those references are from 2010 until this year. The Romana episode was older, of course.
