I'm talking about older shooters. I dislike most modern shooters with some exceptions.
yup agree 100% my comment was more directed towards newer shooters as i assumed thats what he was getting himself into
I prefer pre-2008 shooters, with the exceptions of S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat, Just Cause 2 and Red Faction: Guerilla, because they actually tried to something new and don't rely heavily on cutscenes or scripted events and are fun to play. (I haven't tried Arma 3 though).
Mods are a different story altogether.

Try to tell your parents that you are mature enough to tell the difference between fantasy and reality. Explain to them that violence on v shows and movies(Even pg-13 ones) is far more graphic most of the time. Not all shooters have an equal level of violence, show them the one you intend to play(Show them a parent guide on commonsensemedia, it has everything a parent would object to in it) and see if there is options to disable blood or swearing.

You also will need a reason you want to play them. Is it becuase you want to play with your friends? Is it becuase you want to play the same games all the other kids are playing? Or is it becuase you think the game looks intresting and challenging?

Another tactic is bargaining, perhaps you can take on additional responsibilitys such as mowing the lawn to show that you are more mature. I can understand your frustration, my parents where always very protective over what they allowed me to play or watch. Eventually i got old enough i did not have to ask anymore and just played whatever. Good luck OP.

Why would you willingly play shooting games
"Oh look how fast I can move my mouse to align the cursor towards a specific point on the screen, so fun!"
You haven't played much shooting games, have you or are to accustomed to the mainstream modern shooters.

Eh I'm not into multiplayer shooters. If I included them into the list, the list itself would be alot larger.

Honestly you should probably accept, and abide by your parents wishes. While parents are by no means exempt from human fallibility. The fact of the matter is they probably know you better then you know yourself. If they say you aren't ready they are probably correct in their assessment. At the end of the day games have ratings for a reason.

well do other kids in your school or your area play shooter games that you want to play? Tell your parents that you don't care about the violence, you just want to play and have fun with your friends.

The main issue with this is "shooter" is a buzz word, the mainstream media likes to resort to fear mongering to get views. NBC, CNN, FOX news always talk about shooters causing violence(Basicly your parents believe that people who play shooters turn into anti social sociopaths just waiting for the right time to shoot up thier school). Try asking them why they dont want you to play shooters, if its for the above reason then ask them if the honestly believe that you playing a shooter will make you want to actually kill people in real life. It may shock them out of there irrationality. Tell them that to you its just a game and that kids have always played pretend gun/sword fight where they pretend to kill another person. Games are no different.
