What about tattoos is "unprofessional"
Everytime I ask this question to some IRL they just say "oh well I PERSONALLY dont like tattoos", or they avoid the actual question. Im sorry but just because YOU dont like what other people do with their bodies doesnt make it "unprofessional". I could say "velcro shoes arent professional" and literally no one would care about my opinion... but tattoos OH GOD SUSAN HIDE THE KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to keep this thread clean, I dont want a huge argument but what about tattoos is "unprofessional" other than inappropriate tats like getting a tat of a middle finger etc etc.

A tattoo or two is fine, as long as it isn't somewhere ridiculous.
People with tattoos all over their body are ridiculous looking and quite silly though.

I wonder if there have ever been any presidents with tatoos before.

...

...

YES! Roosevelt had one on his chest. Interesting.

Lol I actually looked it up also because I was curious. Very interesting, not visible but nevertheless a tattoo.

So in the case a of a president having a tattoo, would it really matter if they displayed them openly? People will find out anyway so who cares. Ive spoken with people who think just having tattoos is unprofessional, so in this case whats worse?

Would you expect him to wear shorts and shirtless at an official event?
No because it's unproffesional like openly showing a tattoo, keep in mind wrong and unproffesional are different things.

Right I get that, but what about a tattoo is unprofessional? Just saying they are "unprofessional" adds nothing to this thread. They are unprofessional based on what? They are unprofessional because "Trickster Of Expensive Tactics" says so?
I honestly can't prove it other than "Society says so", I mean why is a suit proffesional? Just because it is deemed so really, I would say because tattoos are "related" more tk gang members or metal players which are "unproffesional".
I think a tattoo isn't so much unprofessional as it is an indicator of the kinds of people that wear them.

Hear me out here, I'm sure a lot of people with tattoos are nice, they dont have an awful tattoo over their whole face or they don't act like a thug. You do have to recognise a majority or at least a very very vocal minority that is both a group of unprofessional people and with tattoos.(half of the time being really bad ones)

Just saying "This is professional" also doesnt get us anywhere. It's just what a group mutually decides on.
Let's pretend the "professional" argument somehow makes sense (even though I disagree with it almost completely), that still leaves the question - who in their right mind gives a turd?

hah, very true.

Agreed. Although I personally like tats on others, the reason that they come off as unprof. is because of the stigma that surrounds them. A person with tats = a thug/rebel, which puts the hiring manager off.

I think this speaks more about you than the person with tattoos.

Still searching as to where I claimed they were professional :gwhat::ADN: . Why cant tattoos just be?

In fact, here a response from earlier I made.

Tattoos just exist, they are neither... they just are. If I see someone with tattoos I dont assume "oh this guy has no future at being succesful" "oh this store owner has tattoos, how low".

this reply section is messed up but you get what im saying, im too lazy to care atm

I agree, who really cares. Its just a form of control. There is an obvious difference between terrible people with terrible tattoos and just people with regular tattoos.

Terrible people with terrible tattoos being crimals.

Ah, true. If I were to be a serious, career criminal, I would opt out of having tattoos.
One less recognizable mark.
So, I guess tattoos are unprofessional ;P.

(I love it when I contradict myself)

I don't think most people have a problem with a few of them, but full on sleeves, tatts on knuckles, on face, on neck, or other strange places makes you seem unprofessional as it's more extreme and abnormal... part of looking professional is looking like a normal person

I think people might be mistaking professionalism with conformity.

There is a lot of conformity in professionalism and for good reason.

Conformity = Society's norms = Professionalism.
