Movies like "Jacob's Ladder?"
Looking for good psychological thrillers and ( if possible ) where to find or stream them. :lunar2019coolpig:

Might have already seen it but worth a shot!

I would also like to add Velvet Buzzsaw. ( Netflix )

I found Velvet Buzzsaw to be a massive disappointment; I loved the director's previous movie, Nightcrawler, and Jake Gyllenhaal has never given a bad performance, so I was looking forward to seeing this.
The first 10 minutes or so are entertaining, where the movie makes fun of pretentious art directors and reviewers, then it keeps going. And keeps going. And - Oh! It's been half an hour and nothing of consequence has happened yet. The central theme of the movie seems to be simply "people that make money off others' art are bad", which is a good idea to develop in this day, except they don't go any where with it. And as a horror movie it is just awful. There is a complete lack of tension in any scene because 1: The powers of the artist (or rather his paintings?) have no rhyme or reason, and the method of killing is laughably convoluted; and 2: All of these characters (but for Jake's) have been set up to be pretentious hack frauds obsessed with the monetary gain of art, and are all unlikable.
The only reason I see to watch this is for the performances. I think the director is a really great acting director, and the actors are all trying really hard to hold the movie together, but their characters suck and the writing sucks and the horror sucks and the message is severely under developed and the movie is boring and way too long.

But I got off topic.
This is a good list:

SEEN EM' ALL. XD

I've not seen them yet, but David Cronenburg's Dead Ringers and Ingmar Bergman's Persona (coming in the mail right now) look like great psychological horror/drama that deal heavily with identity.

Inland Empire
Mulholland Drive
Lost Highway

The Machinist is a great movie, I'd recommend it. I really enjoyed it.

---------------------

Movies like that I really enjoyed were:
Se7en
Memento
Donnie Darko
The Butterfly Effect
Law Abiding Citizen
Saw
Hostel
Whiplash (this one is not that 'dark' but it's an interesting one in terms of psychological personalities)

what you're looking for is basically the "psychological thriller" or more ignorantly put "clever movies", that'll help you a lot in making you search easier. These are my favourite types of movies so it's awesome to have a thread for people to recommend some new ones or ones I've seen, I'm always on the hunt for these.
