Who remembers Starsiege/Tribes?
Why can't we get something that cool again?

No I had to Google it.
You are comparing Battletech to a 20 year old multiplayer shooter ????

The cool thing about Starsiege was that you could also operate hover tanks that you could fit out as you wanted. It was a fun game with a pretty good story. I had it set up for a twist joystick in the right hand and a mouse in the left .... those were the glorious days of mech sims.

Did tribes have like a suit of heavy armor that could attach itself to the top of a vehicle and then you would be its "turret"

While Starsiege: Tribes, and Earthsiege before it were great games (I even ran created a mod for Tribes), those games are like Battletech in only that they include mech type fighting units. As others have said, they're more of a first person shooter/sim than a tactical turn based game. Really nothing to compare Battletech and those games about except the general concept of mechs, called hercs in the Earthsiege lore.

yeah loved tribes 2!

planetside was like an extension to tribes I thought. That game was also so much fun in it's hayday, with 4000+ players in realtime at war on the servers.

Tribes: Ascend was good for a little while.

going off on a tangent here, but 1998 the release year of Tribes was quite possibly one of the greatest years in gaming history. A year that gave us, Half Life, StarCraft, Metal gear Solid, Baldurs Gate. Xenogears, Panzer Dragoon, Resident Evil 2, Spyro (heh), Tenchu, Battlezone, Freespace, Tekken 3, Parasite eve, Unreal, Castlevania symphony, F Zero, Brave Fencer, Star Ocean, Rainbow Six, Suikoden. Fallout 2, Shogo mobile Armour, oddworld, Zelda Ocarina of time, Puyo puyo, Thief, Falcon 4.0. (with some help from wiki :lunar2019smilingpig:)
I remember Starsiege and Starsiege Tribes and its expansion, miss it was super fun for its time

Xenogears, a good candidate to best ever. Should have had continuity, remake, whatever.

I still have the disc of Tribes 2 and it's manual on my shelf, but I was too late when I bought the game(2004 or 2005) so I only played with bots...still a cool game.

Dude, you're right! That was a hell of a year for games.

Totally agree. I just haven't played a game involving mechs at any point that was entertained me/sucked up my time like the Siege games. Especially Starsiege. Loved the customization and lore. Really was great, for it's time. Can you imagine a remake with today's tech?!
