Nirvana wasn't that good. Just because Cobain felt the need of blowing his head off, doesn't make him a saint of Grunge or anything like that. He wasn't even a good singer.
I like both bands to be honest.

He never would comform to 'fake' music, hense why he didn't think he was any good anymore for the next generations music.
