Tattoo Advice?
Thinking of getting one. Not really a design but a line from a poem I adore. If I end up liking it I might get another.

This will be my first tattoo, if I end up getting it, that is. Any advice? I know it's permanent and all, and needle hygiene and stuff, but I'm curious - for those of you that have a tattoo, what are your insights?

Not a tattoo guy, but from what I've seen words don't always fare the best over time. You have to understand that all tattoos gray and blur over time. Probably important to note that really fine writing might not even be legible in twenty years. But I guess you can get it touched up every ten years if you're worried.

I've got five tattoos total. Most have some sort of meaning behind them and a couple of them don't. I would just say as long as you're sure you won't regret it in the future, go for it. Definitely do your research on the tattoo parlours you're looking into to do your tattoo and find out who the best choice is to do the type of tattoo you want. I'm sure most reputable artists can do script so you shouldn't have any problems there. Also be sure to think about placement so you don't regret the location of it later on. Lastly, if you really like their work, tip your artist. Most of what you pay for the tattoo is for the supplies that goes into it.

It's definitely an experience and very enjoyable in my opinion. It's addicting.

Most people don't get tattoos to be "cool" and honestly it seems like the popularity of tattoos keeps going up.

Yeah, the hipster "soyboy" demographic in particular loves their tattoos

Tattoos are a novelty, after a month you wont care about it anymore. Thats why you see people constantly getting more and more. My advice is dont bother getting one. Personally mine is large and on my chest and looks good, but at the end of the day i wish i had unmarked skin.

i can just quote what my 3 year older cousin told me when i honestly asked him about wether i should get one ( he has a big tattoo on his back , one one his arm and i think one on his leg )

he just told me to not do it , unless i really really want it , he even kinda regreted getting them
the problem with a tattoo in any job or any situation really , people will notice them , you can have a tattoo in all sorts of places , i somehow always instinctively look at the place , and while i think "hey cool" many would think "what a loser" or something like that , another problem is you might change your opinion about a quote , a symbol or anything

sure ,right now or a year ago i would have loved to get a fairy tail tattoo , now i kinda dont even watch the newest season because , well i stopped watching FT in 2015 , and watching the first few episodes (edit , of the new season) , it was underwhelming , chuunibyo had more fluid animations and better action , and thats not a big action anime like fairy tail

if you want that quote to be on your body , just go to a shirt shop and get the quote printed on a tshirt instead

I had some friends that got tattoos over the years that I knew them. So here is what they told me:

"Don't get a first tattoo on soft/sensative spots of the body like the neck, or else you will be in a world of pain during the process. Instead get it on more muscular parts of the body like the bicep, or calf. This makes the process less painful. Also when you bathe after the process you will want to keep the tattoo covered in plastic wrap for a few weeks till the ink fully sets in. If you don't do this then the ink will bleed from the skin, and smudge. You will also want to gently rub vaseline on the area of the tattoo to help the skin heal, and will help prevent bleeding of the ink."

It look cool but i don't like having it for myself. Funny part most of people that had tattos have great and healthy skin.

One of the biggest regrets of my life is getting tattoos. It looks hideous years later plus the ink goes into your liver. I'd recommend against it.

I don't have a tattoo, but don't get it on your head.

Depending on your artist they'll touch it up for free when it starts to look really faded or what not. On the whole liver thing, I suffered from liver failure a year ago and had to get a transplant so I asked if it was still okay for me to get tattoos and they said it was fine. If that was something that could be really harmful to my new liver, they would've let me know.

You can have a tattoo lasered off if you don't like it after a few years.
