edit: so gz you're partially deaf
I guess as you grow older and go off your music contests or just listen to loud music all the time, you will lose that.
However, I still hear them. Yes, it hurts and is annoying, can drive you nuts. Some even use that certain tone to keep kids/teens out of carpark loitering, etc.
You can also hear the sound from powerlines, generators, etc.

I personally get up to 19,000Hz+ (just note you will need headphones or speakers which get that range too, but the standard ones go up to 22,000Hz). If you are 1-10 years old, you should hear up to 20,000Hz. 19,000Hz is around the age range of 10-15 year olds normally. Then it goes down from there on...
What do you hear - Yanny or Laurel? (again you need a high quality audio source and speakers to actually get correct results - it will then change depending on if your ears hear higher frequency or not)
