Modern cars irritate me
Over the last few years I've either biked to work, or used Lyft. My last 3 jobs were 3 miles away so no big deal.

But since my daughter has moved back home I decided to buy a car. Long story short, I bought a 2009 HHR.

I've discovered a few issues that I'll get sorted, but my biggest current pet peeve is the frickin' wonky ass electronics.

I can't pair my phone to the car, no big deal I never answer my phone while driving,,, well ever unless work is calling or family or doc or something like that. "Supermom" hates my phone. It's what the lady who had the car before me I guess named the bluetooth whatsit in the car. I dunno, so ♥♥♥♥ it.

The old key fob started acting up, I'd be driving down the street and the doors would randomly start locking and unlocking, and the truck/hatch never locked. I had to pull the fuse temporarily to make the trunk/hatch stay locked.

Remote start never works, but hell I don't care, I'm not lazy.

Replaced the key fob, worked ok for a few days but then the trunk wouldn't unlock. I re-paired the fob to the car (bought a kit from autozone to fix the original issue above) and it worked fine.

A few days later the DIC on the dash says key fob batt low, fine I swapped batteries out of the old fob but it still said low. I bought a new battery and it still say slow.

Google, try a few tricks, low and behold remote start works now,,,, still low battery warning on DIC. Go to autozone and they plug in and tell me I need to go to dealer.

Sigh, dealer is probably gonna charge me a fortune.

I really miss my 79 Nova with a cheap little 250 6 cylinder that I could change the starter on from the top of the car.

I felt like ranting. Time for dinner.

The only reason manufacturers add technology to cars is because it's something else that can fail and get money out of customers.

+1

They don't make them like they use too... more technological "features" just equal more to go wrong as the vehicle ages...

Edit: Remember when one could open the hood and not only identify the parts but could see the parts?... lol

When I popped the hood to look for the fuse box I was taken aback at how the engine was arranged, hell I didn't even recognize the battery. It's half the size of every other car battery I've ever seen!

Oh well, it's what I wanted and despite the malfunctions so far I'm happy with it. In a few years when I retire I'm gonna buy and old car, probably another Nova and fix it up and do the things to it I could never afford to do with my original Nova.

I do think the game My Summer Car would be as engaging if it featured a modern car.

THIIIISSSSS1!1!11!! ^

I’m with you guys on this one.

ETA: Also miss the steel. Plastic parts are lame.

When plastic and aluminum were trim pieces and not major components of the vehicle...
It’s not modern cars op

pffffft! Yeah, I can find something wrong with EVERY brand of car. Your comment is pointless.

I can't make up my mind if I want to get another 79 Nova like my very first car which wasn't a muscle car, but I still have very fond memories of it. Or a 68/69 Nova with a big block.

I like the 79 because it was bullet proof and I dunno, I guess I've got some really fond memories of all the effort I did put into fixing it up only to be cut short by crap pay flipping burgers and family that didn't give a ♥♥♥♥ whether I was driving a safe car or not.

At the same time, while I've never been a car guy into hot rods (I like nice cars, just never cared about fast cars) I'm getting older and it would be nice to have one and fix it up and have something that's fast enough to get me into trouble, even if I never dry it like that.

I don't really care for imports and all these kids with their rice burners don't impress me any at all. I don't care how many neon lights or how loud their radios are, I'll take American muscle over those things any day of the week. Part of the reason I was attracted to the HHR was it's retro look, and I really like the look of the Challenger and Charger, more so the Challenger.
