what competition ? epic is just buying exclusivity , thats all , the moment fortnite dies , the epic store will die
and yes , it does matter , i dont want another damn launcher , i have 1194 games in my steam library , just today i bought a bundle on fanatical , had one game i already had in it , thats really rare ( but the bundle literally was 2€ for 8 games (the onsluaght bundle if someone wants to know) ) i have lots of games in steam and generally , i dont have to check if i already own a game , in browser i have enhanced steam installed to not show games i own in lists , name me a single reason i should happily use another store ? because they are more expensive than steam ? because they are less secure than steam ? because they offer me something better than steam in terms of refund rules (steam already has great refunds if you ask me )
no , steam has everything and epic has nothing
also the things steam has done, i had used steam with like 3 computers in total ( and a laptop) i never had issues with games disappearing , or not being redownloadable ( something that happened on xbox , couldnt download a game through the store , had to find the download history and redownload it from there) i never had my account breached , on epic i often hear that people get their accounts stolen
steam also offers me forums for every game , a friend system , reviews (something the epic store wont have , so if a game is trash , good luck finding out , i sure know i wouldnt buy division 2 until i read reviews , and maybe ask on the forums , and most importantly , check steamcharts to know if a game is dead or not
https://steamcharts.com/app/359550
today i thought about getting smash and splatoon 2 on switch but the paid online and the fact one is online only kinda makes me think about it twice , i still havent fully decided if i will get them or not
same with bo4 , i just cant know if its dead or not on battle.net , on steam however i can always see how many players a game has thanks to steamcharts
also , about valve taking 7 years to fix a bug, i used steam for over 5 and a half, must hot have been a big bug , i never noticed it
I know it may sound mean, but I do hope the Publisher and Studio behind it lose sales for this. I wouldn't even be surprised to see pirated versions of it pop up everywhere. Frankly I hope Valve introduces new rules and stuff in contracts to prevent this kind of behavior, it's simply horrible both for Valve and for us customers. If I was looking foward to the game, which I'm not, I would've just bought it on PS4 instead of PC, as a used copy, instead of normally getting it here.
As for Valve, competition is good and all, although I don't see Epic as good competition, they're not doing anything better than Steam is, for the consumer anyways, the only example of that is 10 dollars less on Metro: Exodus, but only in the U.S.A. because Epic doesn't have regional pricing worked out, whereas Steam has had that for years. If Epic was doing to be a serious competitor to Steam, they should have focused on making a nice client with all the features Steam has, and more, to get customers to come, in addition to games. Making them exclusives alone is simply scummy if you ask me, especially since they're not even first-party games, first-party games are typically exclusives anyways, but not AAA games like Metro:Exodus. Steam has earned by business by making a quality client and service, as well as having a wide selection, whereas Epic has not done any of that. Sure Valve doesn't make games much anymore, but they have contributed to PC gaming as a whole through Steam, things like SteamOS and Steamplay Proton for example, one of which was JUST LAST YEAR. Heck, Valve practically built PC Gaming FROM THE GROUND UP in the early 2000s. Until Epic can become similar to Steam and offer a client with all the advantages and features Valve has, I will never even CONSIDER using their inferior storefront + Launcher.
It comes out on Steam a year later. Most games that are out a year don't hold the price anyway unless they are really popular. I am curious of what the pricing on Steam will be for a year old game which is a kind of niche series.
