Nevertheless, it's not good that Google is the one starting to use data for other means than increasing efficiency.
Start using a VPN more. Also make sure the TOS in whatever service you decide to use specifically states they don't keep logs.
there's no halfway option cause google will still get it
tell your congressperson you want laws to stop private companies from collecting your data except payment information to finish sales
If you don't want to send data to Google, your only option is to stop using Google services. It doesn't matter if you use incognito mode, a proxy, a VPN or two million VPNs.
Don't forget Facebook. Facebook is worse than Google and Amazon combined.
Basically the guy in the video had his mic turned off, told those in the video what he was doing. Showed various websites and showed the advertisements those websites had and then the video talked about "dog toys" for about 2-3 minutes. After he talked about dog toys, he did another search and found all the websites with dog toy advertisements.
And as it's pointed out Google, Facebook, and most of the big techs are combined. If one is doing it, they all are.
I don't know guys, google trips me out. This isn't the only instance. I just hate how they are trying to connect everything, make us all vulnerable. They say it's for convenience of the consumers, but we all know the ultimate goal is data mining and profiting off of them.
This whole "connect anywhere anytime" "networking, friends, and families; advertisements tailored for you" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is seriously annoying the hell out of me.
♥♥♥♥ google.
2) Tech companies such as Google use the collected data to (through AI and ML) determine categorisations (which are Google's data because they generated it) which they can produce correlations with advertiser's requirements for targetting which they can sell.
3) If you're using any network connected device, or a device which is associated with a service that is network conencted, then it's almost certainly going to be scraping as much data as possible. There may be "privacy policies" which explain how the company is onlly scraping the data for themselves - however, depending where those companies do business, there may not be much effective security or protection to ensure what happens once the data reaches those servers.
4) If you're using Android OS, Google will have intimate knowledge of the apps you use and the other devices on any network you connected to (such as your home router) as well as conversations you've had and with whom etc. or Chrome browser or visit any sites using Adsense or Googleanalytics etc. then Google have a good collection of your network traffic too.
5) For privacy, do not use network connected devices (including mobile telecommunication networks as well as internet and www)
6) Read permissions for apps, read privacy polciies for services, read all the terms and conditions. DO NOT just read a you assume what it means or what it most likely seems to imply. Read what the words in their most general, encompassing sense actually allow the company to do.
Example:
"We value our customer's privacy and rights over their data. Therefore, we only collect data that is required to provide a better and more personal service"
Right there, they are telling you plainly, they want the most personal of your data. Nothing is off the table and they will be using it for profit.
7) VPN do not guarantee privacy, they just ensure one company (the VPN) gets all of your network traffic before others do.
Maybe naive or maybe there's paranoia -
HINT: There is no oversight nor effective regulation on such things. Nobody's auditing Valve to make sure they are doing what they say.
So many tech companies have been caught out in breach of legal requirements and have claimed it was an accidental oversight etc. etc.
Besides, how would you ever really find out...
This is exactly my sentiment. It's terrifying the amount to which society has welcomed their domination to the point that they are perceived as being utterly "necessary".
Schoolchildren are actually told to "google it" (as a verb) rather than "perform a search on the internet" - Also they are given iPads at the age of 4 or something - nice brand imprinting.
When I was that age It was easy to give up teddy bears because you outgrow the usefulness. But when the teddy bear talks to you (or maybe it's a paedophile hacker)and grows with you - it can even be damaging to break that bond...
We are only jsut beggingin to see the harm wrought, and itäs not even a complete generation yet...
Here you pretty much cannot even catch a train, get a bank account, park your car or complete your tax returns without Google or Apple involved somewhere.
The irony...
