Someone explain this
Was watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZzwJqc9Hzg and saw something pretty dang curious. Skip to 1:59 and look at the 'top donators of all time' list.

I might be out of the loop and there could be a logical, justified explanation for it. Anyone wanna chime in on this? Also cba checking to see if this has already been discussed - and if that is the real Dondi then I guess it's his money and he can do w/e he wants with it

The concept that all profits from sales should go back into the game is extraordinarily flawed. This is a job. It's not a hobby. We're still getting updates, so money is still being pumped into the game. Said updates include all facets of development (coding, animation, sound, modeling) so I don't feel as if development is being abandoned to make such donations.

It's also not like anyone is trying to sneak one past you. He's openly stated in stream before that he has donated thousands to streamers. All we have here is a reiteration of something he never tried to hide in the first place.

Everyone has their own opinion of how people should spend their money, but ultimately it's up to the individual.

Okay, to be more specific; 2:02 in the video, 'TheDondi' donated $4,000 to 'luxxbunny'

So you are concerned about his spending habits? If he wants to throw away money he could be using to improve his own game, that;s his choice. It's a piss poor choice, but the again Dondi is a piss poor person. And I don't mean that he's broke I mean that he is over all just bad

The problem is if she pay tax for it or not .

Lol I'm laughing at this post. Next thing you know someone is going to post Dondi's grocery list and flame him for buying butter that's not on sale or something.

Isn't the entirety of Dondi's funds accumulated from purchases of The Isle? Since it is, as you describe, his job, does he have any other sources of income?

Quick definition of early access: 'Early access, also known as early funding, alpha-access, or paid-alpha, is a funding model in the video game industry by which consumers can pay (or get it for free) for a game in the various development cycles (pre-alpha, alpha, beta) and obtain access to the pre-full release versions of the game, while the developer is able to use those funds to continue work on the game'.

Spending money on groceries, yo, that'd be totally cool by me, because it's a necessity. The money I gave to The Isle I expected to go towards anything ranging from house maintenance, living costs, to game development. Of course, it would be foolish to assume absolute all of it would go towards essentials, Dondi's a human, he's gotta treat himself once in a while. But $4,000 to a cause that doesn't directly benefit him? There isn't a single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ streamer that deserves a lump sum of that amount, but that's a different argument altogether.

Imagine this, you invest into a company, and that company then proceeds to take your investment and give it away to another company completely separate from their own. The intention behind your investment is ignored and dismissed; lost. This isn't comparable to buying groceries you seemingly defensive idiot, because that's necessary. $4,000 given away to a streamer though, that's just excessive.

The only way it is remotely justifiable is if that streamer then proceeded to promote The Isle. A marketing scheme, otherwise it was just a pointless sink of money given to him by people who surely didn't expect it to be used so randomly, unsparingly and unrelatedly.

Still a job and money is still going into game development, its not like anything would changs if he didnt donate (a certain amount of money is being invested in the project every month, that money being devs being payed. If he wouldn't have spent the money would the devs not be payed? Well they clearly are still being payed so it doesnt matter).

Assuming the hourly wage for a developer is $20, that $4,000 could have been used to pay a developer for a total of 8 day's work. Instead it went into funding something (random grill streamer) completely unattached to the project. Maybe it doesn't matter, but knowing I gave money to someone who can so easily give away $4,000 doesn't sit right with me. I'd have thought he'd have some self-imposed responsibility to do as much as he can with the cash he's received.

Wouldn't that be what a grateful, conscientious person would do if they cared about their product?

You didn't give him money, though. You paid to access the game during its early development. That's what EA is. That's exactly what you paid for and exactly what you got. The right to play the game, the same as any other game purchase. It might be a more reasonable claim if development had stopped, but it hasn't. Staff continues to work, no doubt because they continue to get paid for their time. Even Kickstarter's stretch goals are a gimmick to earn the creator more money. They don't actually cost that much to make.

There is an expectation to invest some of the money back into the game, sure, but the only sin is if they don't. That's not what's happening here. They're continuing to fund all aspects of development. Even if those (very low) hourly wage estimates are accurate (which they're probably not), 8 days isn't much to lose. Nor is it sensible to apply this philosophy to a single job field, and not expect the same from every other job field.

In the end you just don't get to dictate how people spend their income. No more than people should judge you for buying videogames with yours.

Also some of the devs dont get paid for the amount of hours they work. Take the people that make models as an example of you make this model and I pay you for the model itself and not the time you spent making it (Lets say 3000$ per model).

@Spiffles Thank you for providing a reasoned response. Still don't like seeing such a blatant waste of funds, but like you imply and like I stated in my opening post, it is his money and he can do whatever he wants with it.

Yeah, thread is kinda pathetic, maybe I should donate 4k to a Twitch thot and get some nudes in return to feel better about myself.

He donated to friends like sky not tittie streamers. Also the fact that you are following his expenses and criticizing them is pretty pathetic.
