How do I change the notification sounds for the new steam UI?
So I've been looking and reading guides on how to change the notification sounds for steam but they all use the old steam UI. Idk if my problem has anything to do with the new steam UI, but it probably does because I have followed every step to change the notification sound, I changed the name of the new audio file to "message", the new audio file is in .WAV format and I made a new steam shortcut with -noverifyfiles in properties target. The only thing that happens when I do change the files is that steam doesn't play any sounds for any notifications regardless if I have notification sounds on or off. I also followed another method in which I'd change the name of the original file (let's say, from "message" to "oldmessage") and change the name of the new one to message and then I'd right click on the new music file go to properties and make it read only. I have tried all the combinations possible from both methods, and have done the both methods step by step also. So I was wondering if somebody could help me do this or give me some closure to my problem. Anyways, that's all.

You can no longer change the sounds as they are no longer stored locally. You used to be able to in the files and it revert after re-login but now, you can not.

Wait until someone releases a guide for the new UI
click 'friends and chat' at right lower portion of steam client.
click the cogwheel button.
change settings to whatever suits you.

What a shame.
This is a big bummer, i really would have liked to customize the ui sounds to their 2013 counterparts. Quite bull in my opinion.

Navigate to the \Steam\friends folder and find the message.wav and replace.

Yea you can't even use a custom icon for steam no more. I made a custom icon for steam for my taskbar. I click on it it works but it still uses steams original icon. So now i have to steam icons on my taskbar.

Seems they patched that a while back too. You have to delete both and set a new taskbar icon from the Steam.exe.

I did that but when i click on it and steam runs it just uses the standard steam icon. I don't have 2 pinned to my task bar. There is 2 on my taskbar. The custom one i made is pinned and the one steam uses when steam is ran which is not pinned.

Wait, so you are telling me it's still possible to do it (but you won't have to shut down Steam)? Tell me all about it, I can get around that.
i think you understood it wrong, not that you dont have to shut down steam, you must not shut down steam to get it to work. this is a dealbreaker for me personally, but other people already commented on the procedures
