Why is red shell gamer fingerprinting allowed on steam?
from red shells website:

Red Shell logs a gamer’s
fingerprint on clicking custom link

Run campaigns on Facebook, Google, Twitch,
YouTube, or anywhere else.

Then logs a gamer's fingerprint when
launching the game for the first time

Postback event can be fired from the game or
game launcher.

Fingerprints are matched and
gamers are attributed

Campaign stats are reported to your dashboard
for easy analysis.

how can I prevent this from happeneing?

What’s the problem? This is becoming normal.

No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to play their games.

Then don’t play it, simple!

The problem is people accepting this as normal.
The problem is gamers are so addicted to their stuff that they CHOOSE to be fingerprinted actually.

Considering it's an opt-out spyware service for marketers and that I don't think any developer or publisher announced when they added it to their game, you're wrong. Why are gamers such corporate shills these days anyway?
“It doesn’t affect me, I’m not an addict.”

See how simple that was to resolve?

That's another part of the problem. Plenty of people didn't know their games had it or added it in a patch until after the fact, but I guess they're all just "addicts".

Pretty much every game has removed it now, you are very late to the party :p

This curator flags all the games that are asset flips, mining on your comp and games that have redshell ect, so you can at least know for future purchases, or games you already have if you want to check the store page for them all.

Exactly, paranoia of this level is highly irrational, unhelpful and unhealthy.

I thought the situation died down after mass redshell removal...
Anyway, here is a thread, please be sensible and read through it if you want to really bring this discussion back.

Why are so many losers paranoid about this?
Why are you so hell-bent on spamming this thread with unconstructive and immature comments?
What question?

Anyway, I see there is a lot of traffic coming from just a couple users here on this thread.
If you really want to keep it going I suggest slowing down a bit because at this rate you'll have mods breathing at your back in no time.

YOU are the problem? and this fanboy mentality(?)

1. I guess it depends on your system, but spyware is NOT normal, nor should it be acceptable.

2. By definition, IT IS holding a gun to your head? If this crap is bundled along with a game. Burying permissions in a EULA isn’t much either...

3. And forgive me, if this little feature doesn’t get automatically removed when I uninstall the game… (secondary importance).

Red shell might be benign for now, but it’s isn’t an essential part of the game. Would you still cry when your handing over more data, receiving more adverts, locked into an always online ‘service’ as publishers claim they now can’t possibly do without the advertising revenue???
