I Miss Gaming of the 90s
The time when games were unique and game companies in most cases tried to produce a new experiance with there games.

Now what do we get MOBA Clones, CS Clones, WOW Clones, Battle Royal Clones, Huge open world with 5 types of enemies copy paste town Clones, Survial Clones and Clones of Clones.

Yes there are some gems being produced now and then but its depressing and i honestly belive that the gaming industry has become stagnant too afraid to try somthing new.

This is not a Rant more of a need to get it off my chest type post.

Am i the only one who thinks this and if you did not play games in the 90s are you happy with this realy ?

30 years from now there will be threads "gaming in the 21st century was better"
Heck no in 30 years from now I'm going to be glad the Indies are finally gone. And maybe if I'm lucky YouTubers are also gone in 30 years
isnt 30 years from now still the 21st century? idk i suck at math

I get the feeling most of these "X era was better" posts are just made by posers that weren't even born then.
yeah, that too

i wasn't even alive at the time, but with a quick google search, what's so great about 90s games? the only thing i can think of amongst all the billion fast paced DOOM/wolfenstein clones and platformers, is metal gear solid 1, metal slug, and mario

if anything it was the early and mid 2000s that had the best games
I think that recent years might be the best for video games because there are some genuinely good indie titles that try to be a step above being instant gratification games and are almost like a form of art.

I'm more talking about the once in a blue moon indie titles like braid or undertale that treat video games like an art form. AAA gaming is just bad.

I would reccomend the stanley parable, the beginners guide, and the talos principle. These games are less about "having fun" and have more of an emphasis on storytelling and sending a message.

I'm surprised at a lot of these responses, considering all the iconic games released during the 90s which set record sales in their day or formed entirely new genres if not define an existing genre. Nintendo alone had some of their best years in the 90s what with the N64 and games like: Mario 64, Goldeneye 007, Banjo Kazooie, Ocarina of Time (that's the one they all like, right?), Resident Evil, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Rogue Squadron, and more (but I guess they're all just "doom clones" or "unoriginal garbage" to today's average PUBG/CSGO/Siege/GTA/BF/CoD players).

Then there's the whole difference between community content on PC (single player maps, multiplayer maps, total conversion mods, mini mods, models, textures, music, audio, etc.) versus today's over priced DLC or microtransactions with generally little to no emphasis on community content unless they can monetize it. Modding/mapping support used to be a big selling point, now it's day-1 DLC with preorder bonuses for digital goods or microtransactions for cosmetics. Although I guess the average gamer today hasn't even played a highly moddable game during its prime. I've even seen some of these "gamers" argue against modding, saying that people shouldn't bother playing a game unless they want to play how the developer/publisher intends (even if that includes (pay to win) microtransactions).

You could simply look at the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, it started in the 90s but the latest iteration was so poorly received that Atari went back, took the old RCT games, made the UI shinier, rebranded it, maybe added a few new scenarios, and then over priced it to sell today. Then there's the Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition being replaced with the 20th Anniversary on Steam, which is twice the price for less content and the game's not getting any newer.

I all agree with what you said, gearbox really did some cheap shot with this one, i totally do not support this version, megaton was supperior (and i paid 1$ at sale) and its was probably one of the best game on my library. For me gearbox is just a compagny who try to drain money from the fan or nostalic people.

I may not played much video games in the 1990's. However, I remeber the long hours and the fun I had. Also collectable box arts to look at. Those where the good old days.
