Do you like/dislike Saving Private Ryan?
This week is Saving Private Ryan's 20th anniversary. The movie had just celebrated it's 20th birthday 2 days ago.

It is truly an epic film, an excellent masterpiece from Steven Spielberg, and with a incredible performance from Tom Hanks and Matt Damon. As well as an incredible beginning to the movie all taking place on Omaha Beach during the Normandy Invasion. Saving Private Ryan is my favorite WWII movie, my favorite Steven Spielberg movies, and my favorite war movie of all time!

All I can say is that the saddest thing about this movie is the fact that it lost the Oscar for Best Picture to Shakespeare in Love. What about you guys?

Did any of you enjoyed Saving Private Ryan?

Did any of you saw it in theaters when it came out in 1998?

Do you think Saving Private Ryan is all above excellence?

I'm just wondering what you guys think about the movie.

I didn’t see it for the first time until a couple of years back, watched it when I stayed at a mates place for a few nights.

I’m not sure “enjoyed” is the right word, but I’d be lying if I said it’s not on of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched it a few more times since, and it’s had me in tears every time.
I didn’t see it in theaters since I was too young for “violent war movies” back then. But I like it.

I think it’s a good movie that shows the human side of a war. When it’s not about valiance or glory but just about saving a young man so his mother wouldn’t have lost all her sons.

It's propaganda, really.

Special effects were pretty snazzy though.

I'd still rank it below the Hacksaw Ridge movie.
Ehhh, it's not bad I guess.

Although it really reminds you just how pointless the D-day landings were, when we could have invaded from just about anywhere else.

Of course, how nice that the British and the Canucks got the easier beaches. :steambored:
Oh wow Saving Private Ryan is 20 years old. Which actually makes a lot of sense because I went to see then when the new AMC opened when I lived in Georgia. Personally I absolutely love the film. I consider it a companion piece to Band of Brothers which is my absolute favorite series. So while the movie is fictitious it's at least based on some of the stories from we happy few, and the story of easy company is amazing.

Yeah so I actually really like the movie yes. Although when I went to see it on opening day I had a sitting behind me that kept saying all kinds of incredibly racist crap and finally right after the stabbing scene, he decides to get all super mouthy and I stand up in the theater and tell him I'm about to beat his ass if he doesn't shut up. And that's when my friend James also stands up and I'm a big dude and James is about twice my size and Mister I'm a huge creepy racist douchebag shuts his damn mouth.

Let's not derail the subject...
I don't remember when I watched it, but I enjoyed it a lot! It's one of the finest WWII-based films.
It's my favorite war movie, and tied for my favorite Tom Hanks movie as well. The other is Forrest Gump.

The only thing it doesn't portray accurately is how dense the opening Normandy scene is. You wouldn't have that many troopers all cluttered together in one place, and you didn't see any armor at all if I remember correctly.
it's pretty good, but I haven't seen it in years so my memory is a bit fuzzy on it
never seen it, got no intention of seeing it.

so can't say what I think about it.

I like the movie, yet it is understandable why there are the bunch of haters, believing the movie is overrated.
It's not bad, It's a very good film and I can feel how the scenes can be immersive. I even heard most of the other relatives, who are/were ww2 vets, can't able to watch it because even in the first scene of Normandy landing it already triggers their PTSD. They left after that.

Yes the really angry cinephile who has anger control issues and is really mouthy totally never stood up in the theater and told someone to shut their f****** mouth. My off broken nose often points to the fact that I'm incredibly stupid with my lip. How is yelling at someone in public for being an a****** unbelievable?
