blocking smells at doors question

Ok, I have a different schedule to sleep, and I I have to make food when everyone else is sleeping. I don't make smelly food, but one person hates the smell, not they get hungry, they find the smell itself offensive and I can't figure out why. so I need to smell proof 2 doors or pretty much never eat, I think dealing with the doors are easier.

Now for the fun bit, everything I find online is for pot and most of it is 'its legal now just smoke outside' so nothing helping me there.

Anyone else have an issue like this and know how to deal with it? and hopefully deal with it discreetly and cheaply, god knows they see a problem but will likely throw a fit if the solution is visible.

I had to er, seal up a door once. I checked right round and the only gap was thru the bottom so I taped a line of thick paper along it, kinda like a draught excluder.

It worked extremely well. All the er, offending aromas stayed inside.

Sounds to me like that one person doesn't like you for w/ever reason and is set on being a jerk. Even if you do manage to eliminate the smell, they'll just find something else to complain about.

I would try testing them by making cooking sounds and leaving minor evidence("washed" dishes/utensils left out to dry, empty packages, etc), but eat something that has little or no smell like PB&J or a bowl of cereal. If they still complain about a smell. you know they're just being an a-hole.

(P/S: Oh - and keep in mind that, even if you manage to seal the door(s) adequately, cooking odors will also pass through air conditioning/heating ducts.)

It doesn't need to be air tight, it just needs to prevent enough air from getting in that its a problem, and that's a far easier/cheaper than fully sealing.

the main problem is their room has 2 doors and it functions as circulation.

I have had to put felt pads on the door to stop rattling, I think I may be able to get them to allow a foam/felt seal around the door, or I can do that myself without them having a say in about 2 months, due to a vacation.

im mostly wondering if anyone else has been in a similar position and had a solution/knows of a ready made one.

the exhaust is literally just a fan that blows it up into the air, its more for getting steam to vent in a specific way then being an external exhaust. I would need to get a mini fan, which I want to get, to have some kind of external control, and honestly, its winter but everyone in the place prefers it being near uncomfortably cold at night, so a window open is not a problem, it's just getting it to vent out instead of blowing the smell directly to the room that's the problem with that.

Make a compromize, go prepping/cooking for a full day so you have a weeks worth stored in a fridge.
then you can simply put it in to a microwave, wich produces allot less smells.


Also you could ask if anything in particular smell very bad for him (like fish or garlic)

Dirty t-shirt, dirty towel either works well at the bottom of the door. That is enough to prevent second hand death stick smoke getting in and poisoning what i'm breathing, it will work for food smells as well. But i got to say a lot of food cooked in my place is delightful smelling and at the wrong time my stomach will be doing sumersaults wanting to eat some of what is being cooked. so having some dirty clothes to plug the door gap will stop that from getting too much as well.

Get some sort of wide tape. I used PVC tape to seal off my door for the AirCon.

Fold it onto itself leaving a little even sticky edge to stick to the door edges and there you go, problem solved.

cook your food.
eat your food.
turn it off before you go out of the house.
