Stuff like this has been happening in Little Big Planet, and Nintendo hasn't went out of their way to exercise copyright.

There's a really big thing to correct here:
Those assets are not taken from their original owners.
I.E: nobody stole an official model of Super Mario from Nintendo and imported it into their game, for instance.

You cannot import assets from anywhere outside of Dreams - they all have to be created within Dreams.

It's the same as how publishing a cover of an existing song does not infringe on the original song.
