They could, if it was of own choice and families supported it or did not care. If the 50 year old was a female teacher and the 16 year old a boy student in her class, then it would be illigal. Again it depends on the "auhority" situation and if there is any type of taking advantage of, if they are not present then age does not matter, as long as it is within the law.

But most people would frown upon that ofc, because people have set values.

There has to be an assumption that when an adult begins a relationship with a child that there's been a large element of grooming beforehand.

There's no way on earth a 14 year old should be in a sexual relationship with someone that much older than them. To frame that as "love" would be ignorant of the prior manipulation of the child by a controlling adult.

I'm honestly shocked that apparently civilised European countries still class a 14 year old child as being capable of entering into a relationship of this type with a person that age.

My niece is 14 and if she was in this sort of relationship with a man twice her age, he'd be getting a surprise visit from her dad and myself to have a small chat. With that small chat being an euphemism for threats of extreme violence to follow should he fail to leave her alone.
Edit. No need to make further debate, since it will just stir a huge debate without much meaning.

Let me just close it by saying, that in the OP's case I think it is perfectly fine and natural

mosts states allow for dating to happen between adults and minors as long as there is no sex. most also have 2-3 year age difference laws. i.e 25 and 17 not okay but 20 and 17 is

i mean the age of consent is 16 in a lot of countries

2 years difference is not bad at all. Its more about compatibility; personality, same interests, that sort of thing.

Here in IL, a 17 year old can date someone way older than them, say, 35, and it's allowed as long as the older person doesn't have a position of authority over the 17 year old. It's still kinda weird to me, but whatever.

And you mean a minor as in a 16 or 17 year old, right?

I see your edit. Well, I don't think it's that weird if it's just a few years difference and the age is 17.

legal age in the UK is 16 for consent. so a 19 and 16 year old is normal out in our part of the world. but then again so is teenage pregnancies for girls between 14 and 16 year olds anyway. unfortunate fact that exists today and an alarming trend with young people as well.

in those states there can only be a 1 year difference.

That would be pretty normal in my region of the world, infact it would not be weird if the boy/girl was 21 and the other 16 or 17.. Legal age is most likely also lower than in some states in the union.
Doesn't bother me really that much. I was five years older than my wife. My folks had 15 years difference.

And thanks to the fourth transformers movie I now know about Romeo and Juliet laws.

I hate knowing as much as I do

I had a friend in middle school who dated an 18 year old.

She even invited him once when we went to hang out. Has to be one of the more awkward moments of my life.

Its only two years apart so its not bad. I feel max for me is 4 years.
slowdeath Feb 25, 2020 @ 9:33am
if they're both still in high school it's not too bad
Radene Feb 25, 2020 @ 9:59am
Perfectly fine, also quite common around here.
