How do NEETs exist?
How do they get money without jobs?

easy.... we "work" when we want and do games the rest of the day, it's called self-employment. you just do a couple things online a day which take no longer than an hour or two and can be done while watching anime or gaming, then reap the rewards...

As a NEET I've accumulated a titan RTX pc, become a content creator and more... You can do whatever you want and don't have to conform to the "system"

What's the work though?

Oh. I used to be a NEET then but I still had funds left over from my last job I had and I could not figure out what else to do after my last job. Now I work for a local bread bakery. It took so long to to find my current job.
I just get free items and sell them on marketplace and buy games.

Inheritance

Or they live in their parent's basement and freeload

Parents usually enable them, because they wouldn't want to see them starve or homeless (which is understandable), but it also creates a trap of dependence.

I knew someone like this irl. She has Asperger's and used that as her excuse to never get a job (mind you, I have 2 friends with Aspergers and they are both employed and both graduated college, so I personally think that's a bs excuse for anything). In addition she dropped out of high school and never worked for a GED. She blames everyone else for her problems and never takes accountability because her mother (whom is also "disabled") encourages her not to, while also discouraging her from ever getting a job and putting her down whenever she got the chance. It was an incredibly strange and toxic relationship to witness. She basically lives on disability.

I often have periods of NEETery due to my poor physical and mental health. I used to rely on social welfare during those times. But now my partner makes enough money to cover our expenses when I'm too ill to work.

You have found a good person to share your life with then.

If you work, you're not a NEET.
self employed random content creator work isn't actual work. NEET = not in education, employment, or training, nobody employs me, I do my own thing and get $$.

You said you were self-employed. Self-employed = employed, by definition.
by whom? none other than I, if you find a penny on the street I guess you're self-employed too?

If you're doing something and getting paid, you're working, AKA employed.

It doesn't matter if you're not working for someone, you're still working and getting paid.

Not a NEET.

Never heard this term before, but I know lots of NEETS.
Almost all of them are sponging off the system.
