what's the difference between love and lust?

Love is a silly delusional contract where self concern is sacrificed for someone else's sake - generally not reciprocated.

Lust is when you just want to have intercourse with them and nothing more.

Both are chemical reactions in the brain based on hormones and such, they also reward you with sweet, sweet dopamine hits.

I think it's a bit different for everyone, but I understand it to be:

Lust is being attracted to someone sexually. Lust comes in varying degrees, but the closest way to describe it is like when you're hungry for a certain food. You want to have sex with them, you crave their body, your mind begins to race with thoughts about what you'd do to them. Lust is sexual and often selfish. To be sexually attracted to someone is not a choice, to continue to lust after them (fantasizing about them) is a choice.

Love is a choice. It may start off as butterfly feelings, but it becomes a choice when that honeymoon phase is over. When you love someone, you want the absolute best for them and you choose to put them first. You choose to continue to be with them, even when those initial feelings of ecstatic joy are gone and it's replaced by contentment, which may seem dull to some. When you love someone, you choose to love them everyday, you don't fall in and out of it.

Love is a form of universal understanding/acceptance. You can love your parents with the same intent that you love life with. Or love your pet/best friend/partner/etc.

Some say love is an absolute truth, the way 1+1=2. Anything more or less is something else, and would go by another name (IE: 1.99 or 2.01).

Lust is the intimate side of that relationship, which is very temporary, and extends to romantic interests. The two are very different, and should be prioritized differently.
