Star Trek Picard question
Warning spoilers for episode 2

The attack on mars shipyard. There were these "androids" that took down the defences and shields. One man called them plastic men. They were kept in a closet when not on duty. They did all look like Commander Data but that was just some silly writing. These were not true AI beings. They remind me of the toy robots we can buy today. These toys will act a lot like a dog or a "human" robot. But they are just doing gestures. These androids were a lot more like an intelligent robot with a virtual intelligence. A VI is much less than a true AI. Then we see the change in their eyes that let us viewers knew that something happened to them. They were "reprogrammed" or something.

My question is about the ships that attacked. The show blames the attacks on synthetic beings. It sounded like the show says they were synthetic beings manning the ships. But those would have to be true AI beings like Data. The show also says they have never been able to do another Data. I am not sure if they can make any true AI beings. So what ships were those? Maybe they had a robot/android crew that were programmed by someone/something to do the attack? If so, who/what? If they were AI synths then where did the synths get a fleet of ships? No one noticed or cared?

the AI/plastic men in the series were not as advanced as Data of st tng.
data and his twin were created by dr soong. using very advanced techniques not yet replicated by starfleet technology.

Commander Data uploaded his memories to the android B4, B4 was less sophisticated than Lore as Lore was less sophisticated than Data. Over a short space of time the primitive android B4 couldn't contain all that downloaded data, the android eventually corrupted and Data and B4 were lost together, the droid was taken apart and a whole new field of research developed from B4 and Lore after his deactivation and all the techs, specs and anyone who worked on Data in the meantime likely contributed towards a whole new field of research to understand Dr. Soong's research and the positronic brain, by reverse engineering the whole thing.

The Federation successful copied a lot of the work as Dahj and Soji proved, they are bionoids, positronic brains in human bodies, so they could sense, touch, smell, hear, feel and enjoy everything a human can but have the advantage of an Android mind and the computational power to go with it. As Dahj stated before she was erased by the Zhat Vash, she was overcome with powers and abilities she did not know she possessed.

Now if we go back a step, these lesser androids are used as disposable slaves, much like Hologram Mk1's before this, they only had limited programming and capabilities, they probably aren't programmed towards violence or have a developed moral code, but just enough basic sense to interact socially and work.

Based on what i suspect might be the case from here on the Zhat Vash hacked all the synthetics, used them to attack Mars and the most important shipyards in the Federation and then had the synthetics kill themselves when the job was done to erase the evidence of their actions. it not only eliminates a major portion of Starfleet's capabilities but it also eliminates a significant portion of the Federation's work force, i also wouldn't be surprised if the EMH Mk1, Mk2, 3's and 4's were targeted to be decompiled and the Voyager EMH along with it.

Now why the Zhat Vash decided on destroying the Federations shipyard, the massive relief force heading for Romulus and Remus to save those people instead of devoting the resources they had to save everyone they could is a mystery, but as stated in episode 2, they are fanatical about destroying artificial life in any form and that Romulan computers are nothing more than simple alpha-numeric devices meant for basic function.

I do have one question though, did Juliana Tainer have any involvement in the project of the Bionoids?

She was also an android, but she had what appears to be a human appearance rather than the typical yellow skin complexion. Some scans could of been taken of her when she had her accident jumping down a great height with Data during unstable geological activity. I wonder if Bruce Maddox combined that data as well.

That sounds plausible. But then why is the federation so stupid? Why blame the synthetics? They can't figure out someone else is the real culprit? I hope the writing gets more logical.

Never thought about Voyagers doctor. Good question. Would they have turned off Data too, if he was still "alive"?

Good memory. I have completely forgotten most ST details. Long gone are the days of trying to stump each other with ST trivia over drinks. The world moved on and I grew old. Crud :(
