Some of the games I was playing when I was 10:
-The Sims 1/2 (modern equivilent is The Sims 4, but IMHO 3 is still better).
-Zoo Tycoon 1/2 (modern equivilents are Planet Zoo and Jurassic World Evolution).
-Rollercoaster Tycoon (modern equivinents I'm told are Parkitect and Planet Coaster but I haven't tried them myself yet).
-Sim City 3000/4 (modern equivilent is Cities Skylines).
-Donkey Kong country GBA (newer DK games have come out since but IDK how good they are).
-Various flash games (onemorelevel.com, addictinggames.com, and similar sites, adult supervision suggested).
-Nicktoons Unite (no idea if they made sequels).
-Star Wars Droidworks (IDK what modern equivilent would be, but Besieged and Kerbal Space Program have a similar feel).
-Various versions of Oregon Trail (newer versions probably exist, just make sure not to get Organ trail accidentally. The game is pretty good but IDK if it's ideal for a 10 year old).
-Chris Sawyer's Locomotion (modern equivilent is Transport Fever).

Basically any mobile game
gugnihr 30 ENE 2020 a las 4:12
There are many games really great for kids, both on Steam and not, but there is only one that should be strictly mandatory for every child out there:

Child of Eden.

I'm sure that such a thrilling overload of sensorial stimulation would do wonders for a child's brain.

Oh that's just bad parenting. You need a game that makes children feel completely inadequate with themselves. Like fashion magazines or p***

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is fun for any age, and even after it gets old you can always go back to it months later and it's fun again.

When are we going to see your final version of your list? Have some neat idea what to do with it? Make some cool video from it or something?

In short. I'm building a high end gaming rig for a family friend. The oldest are 10 and 12, I believe.
The 10 year old (the boy), has only really experienced Roblox. And a number of games via apple store (ipad, iphone).

The kids are looking to move into the fortnite realm and the parents thought it was time to build a very high end PC to allow higher end gaming. Since we basically have unlimited funds, I can decide what to purchase at my own discretion.

Before posting, I've already installed a good deal of what has been suggested here. I've taken a couple OTHER suggestions, given here, and everything else doesn't seem like either kid would be interested in playing.

Since you asked for a list. I guess i'll give you it...

Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey
The Outer Worlds
Fortnite
CS:GO
Forza Horizon 4
Universe Sandbox
Tropico 6
Minecraft
Stardew Valley
Rayman Legends
Geometry Dash
Child of Light
Puyo Puyo Tetris
A Hate in Time (ultimate edition)
Trine 4 - The Nightmare Prince
Sim City
Yokus Island Express
Awesomenauts
Fez
Castle of Illusion
Rocket League
Paladins

I will keep looking at this thread to see if anything else sparks my interest.

Which version of Sim City? I'd suggest either Sim City 4, 3000, or Cities Skylines (not technically a Sim City game but close enough). I tried playing the 1989 game and 2000, but I found their UI's a bit dated (although if your friend has little-no experiance with management games they may not mind it). Just stay FAR away from the 2013 game as it was terrible when it came out and got even worse when they removed the online features.

it's 2013.

The Simcity 2013 game was fine. I played it with all its bugs and still enjoyed the hell out of it.

Again, the gaming rig is extremely high end. I'm not going to bore them with games from the 80's 90's and early 2000s. Later on, if they organically discover those games on their own, I will help them along that path in the future.

But honestly, i'm not looking to have an in-depth discussion about each of my choices.

Just looking for suggestions from 5 years ago to Modern Day PC Games.
