It mostly allows people to find groups they think they belong to, turning everything into a giant echo chamber that inhibits any kind of intelligent conversation or growth.
It's allowed PC and SJW culture to jump to the forefront of the news, making the average citizen look like a maniac.
Truthfully, there is very little positive that it offers at all.
There is some argument that there are situations you can learn from it, such as a pinterest craft or something of that nature, but those types of things existed long before everyone on the internet had to have a profile for every web site in existence.
It's cute that everyone has "internet friends", but good luck with that the moment your internet is turned off.
For people who use them it is annoying to send sms because it is less convenient.
Aside from that I personally think that social media is more "scary" than no social media. There is definitely something creepy about it. Not something really dangeorus usually but still it feels weird seeing all those people posting all kind of internet garbage for strangers to see.
I mean all those motivational quotes and other cheap crap like that meant to look deep or meaningful, this is really dumb and weird imo.
Celebrities (or even just pseudo-celebrities) posting just their own photos and selfies on instagram for fanservice is ok, they are using those shallow services in the most appropriate way imo, creative people posting creative stuff like drawings or photos or self made toys it's good too I think this is a very good way to use those sites, but it is very disheartening to see what most people (and some celebrities too) do with those sites.
Just my opinion :P
I don't use it, and don't plan to in the future, but I think that has something to do with it.
with me as they would have to do it the difficult way and call or txt me.
I never had any of them no Twitter no Facebook no what snap no tikkie tokkie no instagram.
I only have steam-GOG and use reddit forum for my PC hardware discussions.
I have Youtube channel but i only used it for a game MMO that stopped so i quickly made videos of quest so fans can still enjoy this game with pure gameplay.
Have phone for calling thast all.
Reddit is absolutely social media.
Although I have Facebook and used myspace when it was booming been a long term user of social i kinda gotta agree here.
It's not so much for meeting people these days and keeping in touch as it's mostly for news and memes.
the two main reasons i still use it is for news and memes and i also gotta agree that twitter, facebook, insta youtube, etc (Twitter and Youtube more though) have allowed lunatic SJWs to constantly get into the news and that's really not a good thing.
Sometimes i wish Myspace/Facebook was never invented and we still relied on MSN/ICQ for chatting to people or using random chat rooms lmao.
but i guess Facebook/snapchat was bound to be created one day.
Social Networking = Anti-Social Skills & Risks Your Privacy
Social Media = Social Skills & Engages People In Groups & Activities
Smart Phones = Anti-Social Skills & Makes You Dummer
Difference? Is getting involved, & interacting with those who your speaking with...
Social Networks don't have this, but Social Media does...
Social Networks are like FaceBook, Twitter, & such...
Social Media are like PlayStation HOME, Nebula Realms, VR Chat, & such...
Smart Phones take you away from your Friends, Creates Car Wrecks,
too much use of Spell Check, & things like asking Assistants for Help too
often, can make Smart Phones Smarter then you... Eventually making
you Anti-Social & Very, Very Dumm...
At least to me, this is how it seems to be...
Do you agree? or Disagree?
Not sure what's scary about being disconnected from social media, although I do treat Steam as a social media platform. It's just another means of communication.
Considering this topic, I'm curious how many folks here don't talk extensively to anyone besides their most immediate family, and then just take in the day (the good and bad) beyond whatever these digital social platforms provide. Reminds me a bit of that dating topic:

Technology is pushing things forward, and causing some things that used to be viewed as "normal", to now be viewed as "abnormal"; akin to what Mathius said.
In short: you're normal in a good way OP, try not to stress too much on that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
