Why people like loud bass?

I don't get it. The way some of these people set their stereos you can't even hear the lyrics because BOOM BOOM BOOM. Anything other than the drum and/or bass just disappears beneath the assault.

Bass usually aren't that loud. Nor are any fish. Some can be I guess, but thats just my experience though.

It probably doesn't actually sound like that. Bass resonates through walls so any music with any amount of bass in it will sound even more bassy if you're in the next house over for example.
