FPS/RPG - Immersive Sim List
Immersive sim is a game genre that tries to allow the player to follow a rich story with his own playstyle, while being as immersive as possible in often vast and detailed environnements and characters. Theses games are often based on a mix of first person shooter and role playing games elements and tends to provide multiple paths for a single objective. Immersive sims are rare, often underated and not well known, This is why I'd like to list as many immersive sim as possible in this thread. Well, I guess Fallout 3, NV and even 4 could be on the list, their all great and includes both RPG and FPS elements, but Fallout games are more "RPGs with slight FPS gameplay mechanics" than actual Immersive Sim, just my opinion. :) Same goes for the Borderlands franchise, I think. Deus Ex, that game.... Perhaps my personal favorite ^^ I've lost countless hours trying to save Paul in that damn hotel in realistic difficulty ^^

In that case, Fallout 3 and New Vegas should definitely be on that list. Fallout 4 is debatable. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are RPGs first and FPS games second. Hell, the STALKER series are more FPS geared than Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Also, in terms of immersion. With mods you can make Fallout 3 and New Vegas into post-apocalyptic life simulators.

"RPGs with slight FPS gameplay mechanics" was refering to Fallout 3 and NV ^^ sorry for the misunderstanding, I'm not english :)

I guess you're right about the mods, espacially for NV, but how about The Elder Scrolls serie then?

Do the Metro games fit?

And what about the (no pun intended) Metroid games? Specifically the Metroid Prime trilogy.

The Elder Scrolls series isn't really a shooter (unless you count bows and crossbows in the most recent installment), but it is very much definitely and RPG. Seriously, just look at Morrowind. Oblivion is slightly less immersive than Morrowind, and Skyrim is also slightly less immersive than Oblivion due to weird physics (present in TESIII on up) and the quest marker system. It was fine in Oblivion, but it made the game way too easy in Skyrim. Morrowind didn't even have a quest marker system.

Another immersion breaking irk I have with Skyrim (and Oblivion to a lesser extent) is the armor system. In Skyrim, you have the boots, gloves, helmet, and chest piece. In Oblivion, all of those plus the greaves were present. In my opinion, the best armor system was present in Morrowind, where each individual body part could be equipped with a different item. I loved having two mismatched shoulders.

I agree with this. Since The Elder Scrolls games aren't exactly shooters, I don't see how they would count (if we are going off your OP). But in terms of immersion, the Elder Scrolls games easily beat Fallout in that area.

Oh, easily. I would not be surprised if I've dropped over 1500 hours into the entire series, in maybe 6 years of playing.

Shenmue seems to be missing from the list. That game is very immersive.
