Are Western games too SJW?
Now The Last of Us 2 trailer features a woman taking on several men.

Are western games too SJW? Are Japanese games better with the likes of Yakuza and Final Fantasy showing brotherhood?

Women are supposed to stay at shelter and breed new children to make sure mankind survives the apocalypse.

On this note, I find it funny how in "The Division" the only female NPCs fighting you aside from some black boss woman are snipers. In this regard I wonder why Ellie in TLoU never uses anything but the lighter guns either. But then the same developers have also made Uncharted, where you can play (in multiplayer, and in some story episodes) the female main characters using any gun.

Games could be more neutral as an earlier post mentioned with Fallout: New Vegas, that was an excellent remark.

Developers should let us come to our own conclusion on characters and how we paint them rather than painting this as good or bad and black or white, the issue is when they generalize for a political agenda rather than adding dimension to characters.

For example, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The rich people are painted as weapon smugglers and slavers because there can't be a single one of them with a humanitarian bone in their body since they are rich and representative of capitalism.

I think you're putting in too much thought over a video game. Sort of like a feminist I know of that looks at females in video games. She counted the number of female toadstools in the Super Mario Brothers World. I mean, who does that???? I was too busy playing the game and having fun with the game to worry about the ratio of female to male toadstools...

And go play Fallout 4...there's female raiders in Fallout 4.

I'm out of this conversation though...time to go play Pathfinder/Dungeons and Dragons IRL.

As a woman who plays video games, I appreciate being able to play female characters. I enjoy it more than if I have to play a male. I don't think most of games where you can play a female has anything to do with SJWs...it's just a way to appeal to more women gamers.

I prefer playing as female characters, mostly due to better voice acting. Which is a big thanks to Jennifer Hale in Mass Effect.

I don't think there has been a game afterwards where I choose the male protagonist.

If possible, I also usually play as non-human. Loved my Ellana in Dragon Age Inquisition.

I don't mean this in a cross dressing transgender way, but when does a man get to be woman or a woman a man? I just prefer female characters as in something different from my dudeness. First runs are female then replays with the male. Had female characters romancing male characters, because it is all just characters seperate from myself.

I don't have an issue with that, the earlier titles by Bioware were fair and equally representative of the sexes while Andromeda featured a male model protagonist without an equal female model protagonist.

Dragon Age Inquisition? Isn't that the game that only had a single female to romance while the women could romance several men? That's a good example of what I am writing.

If you can romance several male models, I should be able to romance a woman that looks like Number Six from Battlestar Galactica and not some butch woman.

Bethesda and Obsidian are two of the better developers as I mentioned already with regards to representation.

I already mentioned that New Vegas managed character development and representation well because Obsidian are experts at the role playing genre.

Yes, certain games like Wolfenstein II and Mass Effect: Andromeda made statements but it didn't work since both games sold very poorly compared to their predecessors. Could it just be a case of poor character development or is the political agenda that developers want to showcase having an effect of good storytelling?

There are two romances in DAI for a straight dude: Cassandra and Josephine. Josephine is a bisexual option and it is possible for a female inquisitor to romance her as well, but that is nothing new for BioWare (Leliana in Dragon Age Origins and Liara in Mass Effect, among others).

I get what you mean, it's something different. Bit like I rather be an elf or dwarf in a fantasy setting than a human. Or the reptile Argonian in Oblivion.

I prefer the not model ones. My protagonist is simply a person and nobody is perfect. Plus, if possible, I alwasy create my own character.

Cassandra and Josephine, which are two. There were three men for women to romance: Cullen, Iron Bull and Blackwall. Solas also if you were a female elf.

There were also same sex options: Dorian, Iron Bull, Sera and Josephine.

Well Wolfenstein has always been about shooting and killing Nazis because they're going to take over the world/have taken over the world, and also Hitler is some kind of robot that shoots lightning, since 1981, so I'm not sure what you want its political agenda to be. Some people are also going to be very tired of franchises that have been going since 1981 and revolve entirely around shooting Nazis, except they're spooky occult ones. I certainly was. I don't care much for a reboot of a reboot of a franchise entirely about shooting Nazis. Not to belittle the developers and their effort, or the game. But, y'know, franchise fatigue.

And I'm pretty sure that Mass Effect: Andromeda sold poorly because after ME3, BioWare nuked a lot of goodwill with their community and displayed through their bad writing that, well, ahem, the writing was on the wall. And then on release it was a buggy (sometimes hilarious) mess. And nobody I knew was even remotely excited about it as a concept.

It ain't characters, it ain't agenda, it's product and marketing, and they got both of those things wrong.

What is this supposed to prove?

Bioware are making females look less attractive to pander to women. Why not the same for men though? Why do the male characters look like models?

How about the discrimination against women that are genuinely attracting? What if they want to play as an attractive female but they are unable to create one because the developers made all the female presets less attractive?

By pandering to a specific group of people, you create discrimination towards others.

What are you talking about?
Besides the male Commander Shepard, who was actually a model, which male characters are models? I thought both Ryders in Andromeda were meh. Besides, I created my own Sara.

I've seen enough pictures on forums from both the Mass Effect series to know that very attractive woman can be made in the games.
Same goes for Dragon Age Inquisition. My elf Ellana was pretty.

Besides, attractive is different for everybody. The screenshot of Josephine that you posted isn't the best, I thought she was quite attractive when I played the game. Loved the accent.

Males have been taking on the hordes in video games and movies for decades.
Why can't a woman do it? What, don't like "fantasy" in your video games?
(because we all know Army of Darkness is a documentary)

It is not exactly the same thing. For decades males have been fighting mostly other males in videogames and movies. It's not like having a game where a woman fight males (again) balances things. The enemies are still mostly males, it's not fair towards males that way.
