Yep. Obvious b8 is obvious
the most-recent example would be the qipao at the prom. a bunch of white people attacked them for it, but many chinese people already consider the qipao a very chintzy item. and, when asked about it, were glad that people were interested in it.
similarly, nobody likes a weeb who can't hardly speak without pronouncing a hard desu degozarimasu, but an interest in kimono and other aspects of japanese culture and fashion are actively encouraged. as long as you don't do it wrong, because that's offensive in any culture.
As a white British male who’s parents are from a tiny country called Albania.. I wouldn’t be offended if.. oh wait, I’m a white privileged straight male, so I can’t speak on this subject.
Multiculturalism is a very scary thing and Europe has it's fair share of fearmongering on the subject, especially the UK and Hungary. Both countries have a strong nationalist leaning element. Patriotism and pride are big symbols and multicultural aspects will eventually blur that aspect and so people are scared to lose their country and what it stands for.
Any country that has strong nationalistic leanings are less inclined to want to integrate into a larger culture. it is always the way, it also doesn't help things when you got leaders who are more inclined to beat on that nationalist war drum and get people to believe that others aren't as precious as they are and can be treated differently.
There was a thread a few days back about Martin Luther King Jr., inside there was a comment from a known spam poster who suggested that segregation doesn't exist any more in the USA, but that isn't even remotely true. So long as people draw battle lines on the fear mongering aspect of multiculturalism through their nationalist leanings, there will always be segregation.
We aren't there yet to accept the idea of such things still, and we sure as hell can't pass the buck and say that another generation is responsible. They learn these things from the previous generation as did they learn it from another previous generation, on and on.
If you have a very closed nationalist country, companies will move away and won't come back. Money will go overseas. So many European countries have realized this.
Quite many nationalist "dreamlands" in this world have a low quality of life rating and social issues. It doesn't work.
Doesn't seem to stop a lot people from wanting it despite the evidence and hoping their version will be the one that works...
Maybe we should give the Arabs...I mean Hindus their numbers back. They (Arabic Numerals) only ever seem to cause a whole lot of problems, anyway.
