Steel types are weak against fighting and fire types. If you picked Torchic as your starter, it should be easy.
Try leveling up your pokemon a bit more and then go for a rematch.
I don't think it'll be easy to find one in the wild.
You could also go search around for a ground-type pokemon, since Magnemite is also weak to ground.
EDIT: Magcargo can learn Rollout. Very deadly!

grass pokemon have good defense against electric. Just spam Giga drain and the magnemite will eventually faint
