Top 10 Features Gamers Don't Need On PS5
Just a few things I dislike about the PS4 that I would rather not have on the PS5 :)

Link at the bottom is my video if any of you want to see what I'm referring to.

The Sony forums are weird soooo I'll post it here... lol

10. Non streamlined Search box or search functions between apps

Please tell me I’m not alone in this, not having search functions be streamlined across all apps is utterly frustrating. It almost feels like I’m gearing up for A boss fight while trying to find a movie on something like Netflix…

Why can’t I bring up the search function with a simple button press?? Is it really that difficult to have the Search function of the console be the same… it was for PS3, it’s a cluster ♥♥♥♥ that nobody wants fixed apparently.

Number 9 is a multi parter… 9.A.

9. SETTING

a. Always on DVR when playing games

It’s wonderful being able to use an inbuilt DVR or Digital Video Recorder, but is it necessary to have it running anytime I play a game… surely this would be utilising system resources that could easily be reserved for running… ya know GAMESSS? Am I missing something here, not sure if it uses it’s own subset of memory or what have you.

i. Unable to change settings of DVR content (bitrate, where it saves etc).

I’ve never used the DVR function intentionally but it seems to only capture 720p footage I assume at 30fps… it’s a neat thing to have but it’s not essential. If it’s there why not allow me to change how it’s saved, IE bitrate, resolution and save to external HDD. Would definitely make recording gameplay sessions easier.

It reminds me of the highlights option in NVIDIA Shadowplay… only I can’t switch it off.

b. Options that should be under “About”

Don’t think we need safety options at the top of the options tab… more of an “About” tab thing in my opinion. This one was more about clustering the UI with no real benefit.

c. Can’t copy Saved data from System Storage without heading to “Application Saved Data Management”?

I’ve always felt stumped by this ever since I got my PS4… and still has me questioning the logic behind it, why have a dedicated menu option for copying saves. There’s already a System Storage option with SAVES IN CLEAR VIEW why is the option to copy saves removed? It literally shows the same thing… something like the XMB on PS3 which had a section for each media form that it supported but at least I could see what was saved much easier… ya know.

At least it felt quicker to save data from PS3 to a USB than it is on a PS4… it almost seems intentionally counterintuitive on the PS4.

8. Fake installing games to the HDD

It’s clear that Sony want to be all fancy like Xbox and be able to install their games to the HDD… if you’re going to do it… THEN ACTUALLY INSTALL IT. Sorry but there’s no way a 40GB game on a Blu Ray disc can be transferred to a standard Laptop HDD in under 30 seconds… what black magic voodoo ♥♥♥♥ are you doing Sony. Actually install the game or give me my HDD space back… thanks.

Sony it’s fine if you want to use the HDD to cache game files just don’t pretend to install the entire game…

7. Always in standby mode, no switch off button

I might be alone on this one but does anyone miss the power switch that was on the Phat PS3 consoles… main reason I want this to see a comeback is that the PS4 power off time is wayyyy to long. One drawback to this though is if I hold down the power button to force a shutdown and turn it back on again… the console tells me there might be an issue with the file system? No Sony it was just a hard shutdown don’t get too alarmed.

PC users have been doing this ♥♥♥♥ for decades and nothing has been outright deleted… if that’s happening, might wanna re-evaluate your own OS.

6. Stability is horrible when loading the Playstation Store

By now you’re probably aware that Sony updates the systems “Stability”… I mean ALOTTT. These days it seems that’s all they do is add stability fixes... what happened to proper patch notes or update notes? If you fix an exploit let us know… oh wait they don’t want the jailbreak community to know… shhhhhh.

Jokes aside… the usability of the system User experience seems to just get worse, keep in mind I have an OG PS4 so that might be part of the problem but even still. Using the Playstation Store can be a disaster… from slow or clunky to not loading images correctly. Remember when the Store loaded faster than you can say “who farted”… yeah early launch PS3 era. Ever since they swapped out the layout with a more graphical one it’s performed like garbage.

I have noticed that if it loads slowly… back out and try again, but on a PS4 this shouldn’t be happening at all.

5. 1080p remote play locked out of OG PS4?

When Remote Play became an option on PC in 2015 you could only Stream in 720p to a device… however with the release of the PS4 Pro Sony unlocked the magic of 1080p with a big buttttt.

This feature was only available on the PS4 Pro and not supported by the PS4 Slim or original PS4. Sony it comes down to a bandwidth limit not a computational limit of the non PS4 Pro, just enable it damn it.

I’ve had many issues with both the design and functionality of the Dualshock 4 controller so I’m going to bundle the main offenders for number 4.

4. Controller

a. Terrible battery life

For a controller that costs about $100AUD, or on a good day can be cheaper, there’s a few things that I’d expect… considering the battery life is a little over double that of the original PS3 Sixaxis controller which was 300mAH or the Dualshock 3 which was about 500mAH…

This means I expect the DS4 controller to last the same or longer than the DS3… which isn’t the case.

The added features for on the Dualshock 4 controller outweigh the doubling of capacity at 1000mAH, next time you want to add extra features consider how long the controller lasts on a single charge compared to the previous model.

Many consumers have reported the DS4 controller having worse battery life than the DS3 controller, that’s largely due to the extra secret sauce features Sony thought would be fun to throw into a controller.

Which leads me into the Dim light function.

b. Unable to turn off the light bar function on the DS4 controller

This comes back to wasted battery… I personally find it absolutely absurd that Sony have not allowed consumers to disable the light bar on the DS4, wasted battery aside… only a handful of games really utilise it effectively and if you have an original controller you can’t even see the fanciness happening anyway. IE colour of the bar changing based on the players health, which is neat but it’s more of a gimmick than a required game feature.

c. Don’t need a touch pad or speaker

Both the touch pad and speaker have been nothing but a nuisance since the day I got my console… no game has utilised the touch pad in a meaningful way, though I will give some games credit for using the controller speaker when talking to the player over an intercom (that way I don’t have to hear them nagging me through my TV or headphone speakers, you can turn the speaker volume down as well so that’s even better).

d. Power save settings on controller don’t always work

It’s interesting that Sony recently put out a press release stating “that the PS5 will consume less power in standby mode”… how about allowing me to not waste as much controller battery when I’m afk, you might say well just turn the controller off and to that I’d say sure but setting it to auto off in 30 seconds is still vastly superior in my opinion.

If that’s too difficult, put that Gyro or Sixaxis nonsense to work… if buttons aren’t being pressed and controller doesn’t move for longer than 10 seconds enable power save mode… fixed lol.

e. Peripheral desync sometimes… requires a system restart

I guess it’s hard to update a controller’s firmware when there’s no physical way to update it… maybe with software or the way the PS4 interacts with the controller could’ve been something worth looking into for people who struggle with this issue.

I’ve experienced this phenomenon a few times, usually occurs when the controller gets close to or at zero percent battery… when it’s desynced it still won’t connect to the PS4 until I power cycle the console?? It’s super bazaar.

f. The Dualshock 4 controller triggers are wayyy too sensitive??

The Media Player app is the worst offender by farrrr, who’s bright idea was it to have fast forward and rewind on the triggers?? When you put the controller down all it wants to do is skip half the movie?? Ughhh!!! Please stop that, it’s much more user friendly to have fast forward and rewind bound on the direction pad or thumb stick... or hold down L1 or R1 and press for skip. Fixed…

3. PS+ required for multiplayer needs to go away

Some of you may already know my stance on PS+ but if you don’t… I don’t think multiplayer should be put behind a pay wall. The more things these companies put behind a paywall the less freedom we have with our system.

Now I can’t find the Sony representative on video saying this but I really truly believe it was removed from the internet somehow… or at least it appears that way. However I remember someone from Sony explicitly stating that “Sony or Playstation will never charge for multiplayer”. Hopefully someone can find that reference.

Anyway, yeah multiplayer pay walls are a gross power hungry move that needs to stop… here’s some numbers for you (not entirely updated numbers) butt as of 2018

Sony had “~80M PSN users with 34.2M of those having an active Playstation Plus subscription”… that sounds great,

But when we compare that to Playstation Network users from 2010 which Sony stated “50M registered user accounts at E3 of 2010”…considering that each and every one of those accounts was connected with FREE Playstation Network access via PS2, PS3 and PSP.

The numbers are a bit behind… still amazing don’t get me wrong. The reason there’s not 80M users with PS+ is because it’s an unwarranted pay wall.

There has been a swift decline in the amount of active PS+ subscribers, most likely due to players being fed up with the “free” game selection or not providing them with good enough value. That’s my stance on PS+ and why I rarely support it. Remember when Sony allowed users to KEEP games even when they weren’t subscribed back on the PS3… yeahhh those days were quickly over with a requirement to stay subscribed in order to keep access to those “FREE” games. A continued incentive for players would be to keep and play those games regardless of PS+ subscriber status but alrighty then…

There’s still people making excuses for multiplayer subscription fees like Sony need to pay for multiplayer servers… no the developer or publishers do that not Sony.

Games like Battlefield on console, at least on PS3 not sure on PS4… but that multiplayer was run and still is by the community PAYING for their own servers… even on PC.

Another argument there is PC gaming is free and will always be… what’s the argument there. I’ll let you decide.

2. Loud fan

Houston we have lift off… CSHHHHHHH, I thought the fan in my 60GB PS3 was bad but I’d argue the PS4’s is probably by far the world’s worst fan. Not only is it loud but if you start your console with a disc in the drive it will try to anticipate you starting the game… which means the fan speed will ramp up.

Basically it has a mind of its own and really needs to stop misbehaving.

1. No XMB UI… or a simplistic version of the PS4 UI

Ohhh the XMB… long forgotten but always missed. I absolutely loved the XMB, sure it had its annoyances with not showing you some files at first glance but hey at least it shows me my files easily… unlike the PS4.

The simplistic T like UI design stood out to me because it was very easy to navigate, the PS4 has it’s fun with being able to categorize programs and games in their respective folders. But it’s still vastly more annoying to use. In my opinion, there’s just stuff everywhere or some settings you want to go to that are buried.

I made a video basically explaining my love for the XMB over on my other channel… it surprisingly has over 11,000 views… that’s top tier for anything I’ve made.

If you have any other annoyances with the PS4 or there's things you don't want on PS5 put them in the comments.

Online multiplayer should be eliminated. No more raging at strangers across the platform.

Also switching back to 16-bit. All of the extra fidelity and resources are a waste. Everything should streamline back to the simplicity of the SNES and Genesis.

You wanted to go back to the simple PS3 XMB UI?

But your forgetting that PS3 did more then what the PS4 offered...

If you had gotten a Fat PS3, there is a reason they say it can only do everything...
Because it kinda can...

You can even cook food on the Top of the Console, o_@

there are videos...

& the PS3 did a lot of the stuff you already mentioned...
I even got Gameplay footage of DOA5 from PSN on FaceBook,
& Footage of MLB The Show 2010 on YouTube, fully Edited Content,
cut & trimmed, & re-structured to release my videos...

From the PS3, not some 3rd Party Device, o_@
Not exactly the same as whats on the PS4, but none the less, it did simular things...

Few things:

1.) I get the thing with DVR & About Sections, I would agree...

2.) Fake installing games to the HDD, I can't comment on that... My PC Has Caching...

3.) Standby Mode? My PS3 had this I think, it quickely booted up, but they removed
the power switch in later Editions to make the Platform Cheaper on the shelves, I
did not like the whole interface of the Slim Models myself, I loved the whole thing with
a more Touch Interface, instead of a button interface on the front of the Consoles...

4.) Stability is horrible when loading the Playstation Store
&
Remote Play at 1080P?

Sony is not keen on releasing new ideas, & sticking to those ideas, this
was something they started doing ever since the PS3 Slim had came out...

& you know the PS3 was 1080P when it first launched, but Sony didn't
stick with that either, o_@ PlayStation Store has been crap ever since
the the Game MAG had come out, before that it was super fast...
They needed to update the PS3 hardware just for a single game could function
MAG, did not run on PS3, they updated the hardware to make it run better,
but doing so caused lagg issues, (Probably because the network was maxing out),
not sure... (WiFi Card was not able to sustain the internet speeds maybe)

5.) The Triggers are way too sensitive? It's why I never liked the PS4 Controllers,
I never bought one for my PC, I like the Duel Shock 3 more...

PS Plus+ Required? Ya, people said it would make PS4 better, because Live made
X-Box Better, & Sony would never compete without it, but this is Sony were
talking about, not Microsoft... I never expected a better Platform just because of
Plus Being required... That was a stupid thing to think about, o_@

-------------------------------------------------

Here is where I feel different, though...

Those things about the Duel Shock 4 Controller the PS4 one
thats what sets it aside from other platforms...

I don't mind them being there...

But we need Desync to be better...

& yes we need a much quieter fan, o_@

Btw: Sony kinda abandoned the Sony Forums, it is why the Site is so weird,
& it still exists, but has yet to be removed from the service...

Instead of getting rid of it, they just hid it from view, & abandoned it...

Sony makes good stuff, but they don't really make good use of any of it...
Kinda sux, I miss some of the cool features we had, just too bad Sony
didn't support them long enough to be worth using... :(
