When doth confidence breed arrogance?
Is it verily a truth, or a false statement mayhaps?

I wouldn't say that too much confidence would breed arrogance per se; it does make it easier for a person to become arrogant if they're consistently overconfident, but confidence is more about how we face life and its challenges, while arrogance is more the attitude we take towards people and relationships, I think.

Crap, I'm probably making as much sense as a loony, but that's as well as I can put it into words.
truly a difficult distinction

arrogance is confidence directed at others to put them down?

I don't really know but the impression I get, is that the only difference between confidence and arrogance is the level of antipathy being directed towards the person being labeled?

If they like you, it's confidence; if they don't, it's arrogance.

Were it up to me, I would say the distinction lies in how honest the person is - how well they know themself. Confidence is born from knowing yourself, your limitations, etc. Arrogance would be something false that the person is trying to project out into the world. This isn't how the words are used however.

"wow he really knows his stuff" confident
"this is so easy for me" arrogant

so a selfish aspect turns confidence into arrogance

confidence is tied to ones willpower or instict.
arrogance is tied to ones ego or fear.
i would say that they come from different places and are not the same/linked.

an arrogant person is not necessarily a bad person though, just an anoying one.
however an arrogant person who lacks condifence is a coward.
