Nintendo 3DS or 2DS?
I'm leaning towards the 2DS because it is cheaper and don't think Nintendo is going to support EITHER of them. Opinions? :steamhappy:

I had a 3ds but I think that the 2DS is more convenient, because I did not like the 3D effect (I always left it turned off) and the sound is not so great that you are going to notice it is not stereo.
I loved Virtual console and Snes games so I bought a New 3DS, if you like this kind of things you should buy a New 2DS because SNes games are not available on old 3DS and 2DS.
Snes games were one of my favourite things on 3DS (I've never been a big fan of DS) so I had to choose it once I decided to buy it.
If you don't care about SNes a basic 2DS is more convenient.

2ds (150 dollar newest model, not 80 dollar one) easily unless you want to play 3d required games (Which aren't many) or you just gotta know what the 3d is like.

Recent games I don't think most even have 3d anymore.

Ive heard the old 2ds has okay sound "if" you are willing to play it with headphones/ear buds in

Depends on how long you plan on using it. From what I’ve heard, the 3D is nothing more than some gimmick that can strain your eyes after extensive use. If you can live with the slightly less comfortable layout and the non-foldable screen, go for the 2ds. If you plan on making this your console of choice, or have the money for it, go with the 3ds.

For me though, I wouldn’t advise buying either ds at all.

I only know of about 6 at MOST for 2019...

Unless I'm out of the loop. LOL

I like my 2ds XL a lot. What I don't love is that many games are 40 dollars, even ones from the start of the 3ds's life can be 30-40 dollars if they are first party.

Also if you want online multiplayer, it exists for i think 10 - 14 games or some terribly small number. Basically

Monster hunter 4
Monster hunter generations
Mario kart 7
Fantasy life
Yokai watch blasters
Pokemon games X/Y and up
Animal crossing

Are the ones off the top of my head. Most games are all about the awful "Street pass" local system.

I don't know how good the hardware of the 2DS models is, but I'd avoid the early 3DS models since they're not that good given the "New" 3DS had a slight hardware revision and runs games better, less lag, no absolute fps tanks, etc. Plus has amiibo functionality without the need of an extra gimmick, if that's your thing...
And the 3D effect is trash you'd probably never going to use after two sessions.

I personally have one of the OG 3DS consoles of the now discontinued Ice White color, it's good but better get the updated model. Unlike the hop from DS Lite to DSi there are no features being stripped away like the newer DS models losing the GBA game slot.
The New 3DS is just better.

There was a harvest moon game on 3ds that I wanted, but that was the only game I've ever wanted on it. So never bothered.... This post is pointless......

The original harvest moons (1-3) are on the eshop. As well as some more modern ones.

Rune factory 4 is good
Story of seasons: Trio of towns is good

That is actually tempting.

3DS is larger and has a 3D effect (obviously) but in my mind those two items don't warrant the higher cost of the device 2DS is the best option I love mine

As for support they are still releasing games for it Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey is being released on the 11th

The 3D effect was just a massive gimmick and rarely serves any real purpose, so I'd go with the much cheaper 2DS XL.

No back to nature or friends of mineral town sadly.
I bought a New 3DS XL a couple of months ago because it was basically the same price as a New 2DS XL. I thought, well you can turn off the 3D in a 3DS but can't add that function in a 2DS.

The New 2DS if you can get it. The original 2DS isn't bad if you're short on money and find it new.

I never tried the 2DS myself, the 3DS is just the same old DS formula if you ever had one of those. 2DS might be an interesting concept, but to me it always looked uncomfortable to play.
You might be thinking of the 2DS that doesn't fold up. There's a New 2DS XL now that's basically a New 3DS XL without the 3D option. It also weighs less because of it, but two other areas it might be weaker in are audio and battery. Some people also say the New 3DS XL feels more solidly built.
