Those are the so called 'predatory journals'. Trust me, a reputable journal's peer-review process can be devastating to a scientist's hopes and dreams.
I agree, but when a person obviously lacks the knowledge or 'baggage' to consider things in a way that is valid, then it can be harmful. I wouldn't presume to tell an oncologist, for instance, how to treat cancers in patients as I lack the knowledge. I would much less read about tumour and cancers and suggest treatments based on my 'google knowledge'.
No, some of it happened with the top peer review journals. And you actually might be better off getting your cancer info online yourself than trusting pharmaceutical companies.

Not at all. Like I said, I am not qualified to have a say in that subject so if I should ever have cnacer, I would trust the opinion of a doctor who spent many years studying cancers. When your car breaks down you take it to a mechanic, not to the car wash and hope it'll get fixed.
