Played a PS4 today
I have been a PC gamer for a long time ever since Xbox 360. I have never really played console games since then. I was at my friends today and he let me play God of War.

I will say the game is absolutely beautiful and the story is damn fantastic I can't think of any game on PC that even comes close to the overall production value.

But my issue started when I tried to play the game. I think I am just so used to 60fps playing at 30fps is just so uncomfortable for me, I can not enjoy the game at all because it feels like slow motion. So I had to watch him play and it was much more enjoyable.

Does this happen to anyone else? Are you able to enjoy 30fps gaming?

Did you just never play video games before 2000? 30 fps was pretty much unheard of back then, nobody got migraines or complained, they just played the game.

I've been playing video games since the 1970s, but I assure you, people were not only suffering migraines as a result of playing games prior to the year 2000, they were even getting migraines as a result of using the abacus back during the time of the Ming dynasty.

The reason a low frame rate in a modern game can induce migraines is because it's almost always caused by poorly performing hardware. This doesn't just result in a low frame rate, but an inconsistent frame rate. Inconsistent flickering and strobing absolutely, one-hundred-per-cent, indisputably causes migraines in a significant number of people. Even if you're a hundred years older than everyone here, it is an incontestable fact.

Did people get migraines watching cartoons pre 2000s too? Because most cartoons I watched as a kid were 15 fps or less and I never knew anyone who got migraines from it.

Inconsistent maybe I can see causing migraines, but not sure how that negates ps4 consistent 30fps games from being playable, or consistent 10fps games from the 90s.

I'm 29 now, and this is the first time Ive seen someone hint at me being old. I guess I am getting too old these days

a cartoon is something static, it doesnt generally have changing camera angles or other things a game has , so a lower framerate isnt as noticeable same for movies ( tho if you are used to 144fps , even a movie will feel like theres images missing with every movement ) ,i dont notice it when playing ffx with its static camera either , but for modern games with cameras , low framerate is very bad

I would actually have to research which software I could use to even get an FPS counter.

In other words -- I don't care. I just play games, I don't measure fps or the other "PC master race" BS.
It's not really the framerate that made the ps4 game run slow, it was hardware related limitations.

What
I own both a decent PC (1060/Intel I5/16GB Ram), and a Regular PS4. While I can definately notice the difference between 60, 40-ish, and 30 FPS on my PC, I can't really notice 30 FPS on my PS4 and TV the same way I do with my PC. Maybe it's because the screen is bigger or something, but even though it's locked at 30 it feels consistent, whereas on PC 30 FPS feels sluggish and slow. With games like "God of War" or "Spiderman" I'd bet that since both are PS4 exclusives, they're likely VERY well optimized for PS4, so the gameplay and performance is probably top-notch for a PS4 title. I can't speak for God of War myself, but at least with Spiderman it feels smooth despite being a 30 FPS game. Only ever noticed an FPS drop once in that game.

I suppose when it comes right down to it, what really matters is consistency. If a game stays at 30 or 60 FPS and doesn't drop down at all, it's great, if it does drop or stutter, then it's horrible and jarring to notice.
Actually today i played BOTW on the Switch and even tho it was capped at 30 it felt smooth.
and I enjoyed it

the normal gameplay isnt as bad ,the problem comes when moving quickly or trying to aim the bow with 30fps , atleast in my opinion

Yeah. But I feel uncomfortable to aim with a joycon anyways...
30 fps are so bad, I played a PS3 FPS split screen, some COD, and was crap, very very slow compared to 60 fps I'm used to with a gaming PC.
There are for example turn based games which can be played at 30 fps and don't have a give bad experience but a FPS should be played at at least 55/60 fps.
