Mathematicians and economists are the most respected ones.
Respected doesn't equal how much it pays. Being a stripper pays a lot, but it doesn't mean it's respected.
Also firefighters in general are a pretty redundant job. Most rural places use voluntary fire fighters and get along fine. Not to mention I've witnessed fire fighters in my city operate, and the few times I saw they weren't even helping anything, and in a couple cases seemed to make things worse.

Money rules
