Opinions on Sonic 1 almost remastered?

Anybody has tried this Sonic Mania mod?
I already have Sonic Mania on console, but I was thinking about buying it on PC too mostly because of this mod.
Sonic 1 is my favourite game in the series and one of my favourite games of all time, but I want to be sure this mod will not give me the feeling that I am playing a cheap or unpolished amateur mod/fangame... I know is of course made by amateur fans, but some mods for certain games feel really professional and satisfying, are very polished and well made from start to finish... I just want to be sure that Sonic 1 almost remastered is like that.
Anybody tried it? Is it worth it to buy Sonic Mania for this mod?

I know, but I decided to put this in OT because I wanted the less biased opinions possible. I thought that in a forum dedicated to that game opinions would have been more biased in favor of it.

Trust me, get it on PC. Modding is getting more and more advanced as time passes. You're missing out by only having it on consoles.

I'm playing Sonic mania and the level design it's really good also the soundtrack its good

If you're concerned about rebuying it, wait until the Winter Sale. I think it goes for $7 on sale.

I didn't want opinions on Mania game itself, I have it, I have completed it and, while I liked it and appreciate its quality, there are some things I find really annoying about it and I wouldn't buy it again if it was not for this particular mod.
