Nena comes to mind when it comes to one hit wonders and historic meaning.

More specifically, “99 Luft Balloons”. It was a protest against the nuclear arms race during the Cold War. It takes only 99 nukes to destroy the world...a solemn reminder of what the thousands of nuclear warheads that already exist today.
