SICK OF GAMES SO HARD THEY'RE FRUSTRATING
Been playing games since the NES and SNES days. Owned and played dozens upon dozens of games on every console. Back in the early days, I really loved to play games that were frustratingly difficult.

As I get older, and my time becomes more limited and valuable, I find myself not wanting the same kind of frustrating experience in video games. I play games first and foremost to relax, to enjoy the story and adventure. I don't mind having a slight challenge; however, if I can't seem to get past a certain point in a game after 4-5 times of trying, interest in the game is lost and I stop playing it. It is at that point that I feel extrememly♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥off because dropped $$$ on the game and I can't beat it. The most recent example in my library is ULTIMATE GENERAL CIVIL WAR. Can't even get past the first stage which is incrediably, incredably frustrating considering I basically wasted $30. Currently will never buy another game from the developers. Sadly, no legitimate cheat codes exist without downloading shady "trainers" from unknown forums. No thanks.

At this point, I find myself researching games far more in depth than ever before. Specifically, I look for reviews that describe the difficulty. I figure out if there are any cheat codes for the game. Cheats are a last resort to get past difficult parts (after trying 4-5 times). Developers that have cheat codes are far, far more likely to get a purchase from me.

I wish all games -- every game --- had a truly easy mode. This would be literally anyone with a pulse could beat it. Once I beat the game on EASY, I do tend to replay on harder levels and go for more achievements.

But games that don't have a truly EASY mode and/or cheats from the developer? Nearing the point where I don't want to play games anymore without these options.

I know the feeling. I just attribute it to getting older. I've got so many other things on my mind, there's just not enough RAM left for heavy recreational thinking.

Perhaps being a gamer isn’t for you then.

I don't want to do that. I want to play and beat amazing games like "The Last of Us" --- which I beat, thankfully, because they have an EASY mode.

Why does it have to be an either or? Sorry. It doesn't have to be.

I bet lincon wished he had easy mode at the theater.

Most games have an easy difficulty setting or mode. Those that don't, well, you just avoid and don't play. I do the same thing since I have minor arthritis in my mouse hand.

If I recall correctly, there is a tag for games in the store that're very difficult. Forgot the exact name of it though - but you could filter out those games to make your search for new ones just a bit easier. At the end of the day, it's nothing to get upset over. Video-games are meant to be fun - not upsetting.

Well 'Ultimate General: Civil War', I haven't played, but is a strategy game in which is war based (so you aren't meant to win every single fight - in war, just like the real deal, the soliders are merely puppets off to the slaughter).

You don't need easy mode, nor cheats or trainers...

Being a strategy game, it's not hard if you understand the strategy. Hense look up 'tutorials', 'hints', 'tips' and 'tricks' in order to understand how to become a better player.

You should try and find different genres to play. Maybe management games like Cities: Skylines and Coaster World or whatever that's called.
Old people play hidden object games or something.

Well, knowing your frustrations, I end up looking at other games and playing the laid-back ones until I feel comfortable playing the toughies again.

Just gotta keep chill, and you'll figure it out eventually! :)

thats the whole point, they are supposed to be hard/ make you rage, if every game was easy peasy then it would lack variety and would have no replayability value

From old player to old player: I feel you.
I've learnt a few gaming lessons through life that have helped me keep happy with my gaming.

-Vote with your wallet. Buy games that have the feature you want on them. There's some features on a game whose lack on a game are a hard pass from it (For me it's FOV sliders, and Bot matches

-Realise you don't have to play every game or finish them. Don't get gaming turn into work, we adjust have work for that. I don't miss not playing TLoU (I don't want to buy a console) or other exclusives. Same for finishing a game. If a game stops entertaining me it's time to move elsewhere. Games ain't pokemons, I don't have to catch'em all

I wish all games came with a difficulty slider (yes I play my games on easy and I don't care about it) I come from an age where difficulty was the de facto skinner box. Games were difficult to microtransaction the hell of you at arcades. Same I wish they had a FOV slider (If I wanted to get nauseous I'll go to a rollercoaster) and Bot matches (I don't want the enjoyment of my limited playtime to depend of a 20yo neckbeard troll at mom's basement. And bots don't get angry and report you if you leave mid match because RL requires your immediate attention NOW.

But other than wish, what I can really do is to put my money on the hands of people who provide the stuff I want. Sure I'll be missing some stuff here and there, but I'll also miss the stress of forcing myself through those games...so in the end it evens out.

Funny thing is you'll get where he is now one day, with no time to 'git gud' and some Internet-know-it-all will come and say those exact words to you.

I wish I had 'git gud' time. I really wish.
