How do you choose the names of your characters in games?

I personally base it of the back story while trying to make it fun to say, an example of this is in mass effect my character name was Fause which is derived of the French word for false,

False Shepard, i was playing an 75% evil character.

How do you choose the name?

Too much thinking Naruto/Boruto names in my sleep had to name my characters in my POV's trait, and it was fun too.

I named some characters by distinguishing its appearance.

In Fallout: New Vegas I named my character "Sakura Haruno III" and her iconic appearance is her pink hair.

I may have a lot of names to name on, but I'm not using any villains' name, especially Madara Uchiha. God, he's so mean, despite he has a demigod strength.

I usually keep the name of the character, unless I've done multiple runs. In that case, I'll name it after the playthrough I'm doing (any challenges or stuff like that), or I'll think of a pun off the character's name. I once played a character named Brick, and I had some fun thinking of names that rhymed with that.

I usually do a variation of my regular name or the name of the default character.

Ex. Male to Female
Drew Antonio > Anne Drew

Ex. Character Name
Handsome Jack > Dapper Dave

i usually write ten names and put them into a hat and choose one.

I name them after greek gods sometimes.

If he's a vampire then his name will be Count von Count. If Count von Count is taken, Count von Count's name shall be taken from one of the translated versions of the show.
If he's Middle-Eastern then his name will be Ameer the Queer

Unfortunately, those are all the names I could come up with. Naming characters and people is the most difficult thing in the world.

But coming up with names in some games is much easier. Naming argonians in Elder Scrolls is lots of fun for example. My favorites are Knocks-On-Heads (he knocks on people's heads), Pretends-Being-Kitten (she pretends being khajiit) and Leaves-Stove-On (he leaves stoves on)

I'm terrible with making names, so I usually either just go for my username (custom names are usually just used to name save files anyways) or go to a name generator online.

In fantasy games, I give them names based on their race. In anything else though it's usually whatever random crap I can come up with.

Usually give them my real life name, Wrecker or I'll just think of a random lady name if I'm being forced to play as a woman.

In Red Dead Redemption 2 I named my horses. Honesty, Charity, Grace and Comfort.
