If you want military sims there are ARAMA 3 and Squad.

Arma series kind of similar to battlefield, the difference is that the maps are gigantic, loads of weapons, vehicles, and etc. You can even make your own custom games, and etc.

All I know is that World War 3 looks really similar to Battlefield 3, but more "tactical". Although it will be released as an early access game on Steam this fall.

I know. But in terms of settings, it does remind me of BF3/BF4.

To add to my original point, I want a game like it, but the setting can be 100% different
What I'm looking for is mostly similar gameplay and modes

You can look into Insurgency: Sandstorm if you want. Although the game is more realistic and heavily focused on infantry gameplay (the game does include light vehicles which can be used for fire support and transportation), the gameplay can be fast, brutal and intense sometimes. The game includes 4 different objective-based multiplayer modes and a co-op mode called "Checkpoint". Two more co-op modes will be added to Sandstorm through updates, one of them is from the original Insurgency game.

There's no other game that looks exactly like BF3, no game is busting their ass trying to copy BF3, the closest thing you can get to BF3 is BF4 my guy, similar graphics, and similar game modes, otherwise you're not finding anything else. The closest game to BF3 without being from connected to the franchise is Squad, and Arma 3.
