Is PC Gaming for the rich now?
Has PC gaming become expensive when compared to console gaming? $1200 for the latest next graphics card and more than $2000 for a 4K HDR monitor.

You dont need the latest gpu/cpu in order to play half a dacade old games gamers tend to recommend. Not even the new ones have that on reccommended speccs sheet. So no you dont need to be rich.

A 2080 is a special case; it's only a reasonable buy if you have a 4K monitor. For any resolution beyond that, you could get away with a much less powerful card and still get the same framerate.

Always buy your GPU to match your monitor, that means a 60 for HD, a 70 for 1440P/2K and an 80 or 80Ti for 4K.

Absolutely not. Don't be ridiculous. The options for the buyer range from very low to very high, both in terms of price and in terms of hardware requirements..

If you want to buy a cheap game that doesn't require powerful hardware, you can. If you want to buy an expensive game that requires powerful hardware, you can also do that as long as you can spare the money to waste on it.

Honestly, with modern hardware it's less a matter of what you can and can't do and more a matter of framerate. AMD's Integrated Graphics chips can run almost anything now. And that's about as cheap a build as you can get.

Consoles can play games at 4K though and televisions have more televisions with HDR support.

Consoles cannot play games at 4K, despite what manufacturers claim.

They can use 4K monitors, and the PS4 Pro can upscale an image slightly on 4K screens. But they're not capable of running at a true 4K resolution, they're nowhere near powerful enough. And by the time a 4K capable GPU costs little enough to fit into a console, 4K will itself have been replaced by something new and shiney.

Sony is a hair's breadth from charges of False Advertising.
Never was and never will be. Budget buiilds exist... Shop around.

The Xbox is true 4K.

No, a PC that can beat modern consoles in performance still will cost you less than those said consoles. And spending a bit of extra money just makes your gameplay experience smoother and keeps it looking better.

Actually no, you need about $600 PC to beat console performance with how prices currently are for RAM and graphics cards and can get console for around $300.
And even then the console is better optimized to run latest demanding games then that $600 PC.

If you want properly beat consoles then you are looking at something like this:

I guess. It is quite expensive in my place, even for a mid-tier specs.
If you want the best of the best then yes. If you want to play games at mid graphics with 60fps as an average then no.

Too many people think you need the latest and greatest. You really can have a better than console experience with last gen stuff. 10 series cards will be dropping due to RTX, and then there's free online and other added benefits. I don't have a part list now but later I'll post one here.
Here is a list for a complete budget PC setup, Including a monitor, peripherals, and a headset.

You may ask why I included a TV for the console setup, since most people have one. I did this because you could simply say the same with a PC setup, since you can hook a PC up to a TV just fine. However, I wanted these lists to show building a setup from the ground up. I also chose the PS4 because it is the more popular console at the moment.
While the PC setup is more expensive, it will be cheaper in the long run. You can find games cheaper through Steam, and you won't need to pay for online play. Just add in ~4-6 months of online play costs and the prices will balance out. You also get cross play on PC, but you could also get that on a console by not going with a PS4.

There is no way you need a 6-core CPU and a 580 8gb to beat something like the Xbox One or PS4.
It’s cheaper in the long run for PC. If 1 thing breaks on console then you’re done. But if something breaks on PC it can be easily replaced.

As for Specs you don’t have to have the most powerful PC on the planet. You just need enough to play it with good frames and good graphics. No need for perfection. And you can upgrade whenever you have more money.
No, it isn't. People just make it out to be.
If you build it yourself, and shop around, as an example. I spent between 3 and 5 months shopping for parts on my current pc. It took me so long because I was on a budget and I had a goal. I used Skyrim at max settings as my benchmark. I watched every sale and every website I could and picked up parts I needed as they went on sale. I spent a little under 600$, I think it was 580 and some change, 4 or so years ago. If I hadn't of shopped the way I did it would've cost me twice that easy. Anyway, put it all together and viola'! Max settings across the board with 300 mods and an epic ENB. Only thing I wish I'd done differently was to get an SSD.

PC gaming CAN be expensive, but unlike consoles you can make it significantly cheaper with a little forethought and planning.

Only stupid people pay top dollar for anything. You can still get quality without breaking the bank.

With a console though, you always pay their price.
If you decide that you desperately want or have to play in 4k to be happy, wouldn't the Xbox One X be the cheaper option by far?

And I'm not talking about performance...I'm just talking about the cheapest entry into 4k gaming.

I don't keep track of these things because I'm happy with my original Xbox I have and my computer.
