Charizard is wrecked by stealthrock, venosaur is almost a 1 trick pony, and blastoise is a very inferior water pokemon, mega wise, mega swampert totally outclasses it in the rain.

Bulbasaur solely due to the fact that in red/blue he looked the least awful from behind. I get there were limitations of 16 bit but Frith on a hill. None of the other original 151 looked as terrible as Wartortle and Charmeleon.

Also Blastoise is coolest among gen1 starters' final evolutions imo.

If you want to rely mostly on your starter then go squirtle. If you want a full team then pick whatever. Nidoking is also a great choice to carry you through the game.

And you can get Nidoking rather early, as you'll probably find a Moon Stone to evolve him.
