Why do obviously fake profiles try to friend me?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets random requests from obviously fake profiles? Usually profiles that either don't have an avatar or or clearly feature a woman model ripped off Google image's first page

What are people hoping to achieve? Are they attempting to scam? Sometime's Ill accept the request just to see what they will do, but usually I never get a response. I don't understand what they are trying to accomplish. Especially the ones that are just an profile picture of a woman model taken straight from Google? Are they hoping to bait people?

Are you a fake profile OP? I assume you're not a glowing red skull and crossbones in real life?
Did you just assume my status of living? :SmallSkull:
They are a cult group trying to recruit you. Like a cosmetology club or something.
I already made few of those topics about strange request i just remove them. Btw i only get them when on forums.

Most are level 1 or ones who try trade or sell something form Asia(chinese) mostly.
If they spam enough profiles they'll eventually find someone stupid.
I'm never worried about "fake" profiles.

I have nothing that they want.
i do have a few on the friends list and of those i do have? most of them are developers of games and one is a former officer on a forum here on steam.

i have two pending friends requests, they have been there for almost a year now and, i haven't noticed them before until making this point and i won't notice them in the future either. they can keep on that list for as long as they like. if i wish to friend someone it will be on my own dime, not because someone wants to be, which is highly suspicious to me.

That's why I don't care about spyware. People tell me, "Windows 10 is watching you!" All I have to say is I pity the poor guy who has that job. :P

Often times there isn't a person behind a screen somewhere watching what you're doing on your computer. A lot of spyware is automated - a lot like the bots that float down here.

harvest, transmit, process, sell (as "anonymous" data) = profit.

Lots of profit. Makes me wonder how one person's information could be worth more than another's.

So avoid clicking the link, but report their Steam Profile and that URL when they do! Optional: Screenshot and report the account on SteamRep.com to warn others too.

Profit.
