Virus ? Goo.gl link through skype...
...it was 6 am. I only just opened my eyes and first thing I do is to grab my android phone and check emails/messages. There was suspcisous looking link from one of my skype contacts sent at around midnight and 2 pm. I never click on the links but because I was still half asleep and I did not speak with this contact in ages I clicked on the link but nothing happened. I clicked again and still nothing so I copied link and pasted it to the browser in private mode with active VPN. Link which had my skype username at the end took me to some website's article about some US TV show. When I finally woke up I realised what happened. It must have been a virus. I deleted conversation from skype, changed password to a stronger one, blocked contact and scanned my mobile several times - no malware detected. Do you think that my android phone was compromised and that I am hacked now? Does virus like this work on phones or is it targeted at desktop users. Am I safe?

Impossible to answer, as long as you took all the precautions you could and nothing looks suspect you might be fine. Keep an eye on it for a few days and watch for anything that's out of the ordinary.

Always change your password 'after' you scan, never before incase it's a keylogger virus.
This is so scary. I am in panic mode now. I am afraid to log in to the.bank, amazon account, etc. I am afraid to use my wi-fi. Why norton mobile security malware scan is telling me there is no malware? Is there a way to so full system scan like you do on PC? This is terrible.

Don't panic, it's telling you there is no malware because it has not found any. There should be an option to run a full scan on your mobile, use that.

If your phone is working fine and nothing new has appeared you should be ok but watch for anything suspicious. If you log into a bank account or anything personal make sure it's the actual site, check the address bar and confirm it in your browser if you're not sure.
If you really feel unsafe about your phone then delete everything and get a new one. Its Common sense .

Thanks. I will continue to monitor my phone. I have also activated norton mobile website security just in case. I should have had this turn on before. Thank you for your messages.

A bit of a question, but why exactly do you believe it is a virus? The shortened link or...?

Because this was very random. I have lost contact with this person and was suprised by randomness of the message. Link did not come from this contact. I am sure of it. I read that clicking on suspicious links activates scripts that install malware deep in your system. I was half asleep and just pressed this stupid link but when it did.not open I was curious as to what this contact sent me so I pasted the link. It was a grave mistake. This person stopped talkinh to me. Probably their account was hacked and somebody sent message as her. Why would someone send this rubbish? I let the guard down and got exploited by some hackers now. This is terrible.

This has been happening for a year or two. The account of your friend was compromised. As far as I know, the link you got is not infecting your system, it's just spam. Run an AV checker if you are worried. No point in panicking and doing something rash. Stay calm and check.

I will run few more scans. Thanks a lot. I am constantly checking battery usage and it is probably that I am paranoid now but I could swear that my battery usage has gone up since this terrible morning. It has gone up not by much but I am imagining the worse. So you think that what I got was just a SPAM. I am calmer now. Thanks.
No idea how to help exactly, but maybe a similar situation may help. I was on FB Messenger and one of my friends sent me a oink to a "facebook video", which prompeted me to login for some reason. FB messaged me about ten mins later saying someone tried to access my acc, and it turned out my friend had been hacked. Dunno how this'l help but hey-o.

Yep, a few of my colleagues got those a while ago, usually from accounts that had been inactive for a longer while (but not exclusively). We'd looked into it to be sure their machines or phones weren't infected or otherwise affected. It was all fine. This isn't a guarantee, but it's probably nothing to be worried about.

(It's not the same as the FB hack with the video that was pretty big a few months back.)

Thanks a lot. This has actually calmed me down a lot.

Wait, the FB video hack wasn't something small time? It really seemed to be for me.

I like your username. Yes, I thought about this but I have lots of stuff on my phone. Things like google auth, authy, lots of contacts, apps etc. I would need to back my phone up first but will it not back up the possible virus?

You cant get a virus unless you download and execute a file.

Stop being such a kitten.

Lol. I thought that all the virus things happens in the backgrund and that clicking on something executes the virus command or whatever it is called. Techicly I pasted this link to the browser as clicking on it did not do anything. I mean I definitly feel calmer now. Why people need to hack and spread nasty viruses, ransomwares, keyloggers etc. This is pure evil. I have not done anything to anyone. I just want to use net without all this bs.
