Why is there no shooter game about ''The Troubles''?
For those who don't know, ''The Troubles'' were a conflict mainly situated in the north of Ireland during the late 1960's until 1998 with Irish Republicans wanting Northern Ireland join the rest of the island and tried to achieve this feat in various ways, which eventually led into a conflict between the Irish Republican Army (IRA) with several smaller groups against Police and the UK as well as Northern Irish Ulster groups.

An important aspect of this is the matter that Northern Ireland to a big part are protestant christians while the rest of Ireland are mainly catholic, although it wasn't a religious conflict this was fairly pivotal.

During its time this conflict was well known but these days fades more into obscurity with a lot of people even in Britain forgetting what this conflict was all about.

A video game, especially a shooter, could be interesting for this topic, especially since this scenario was hardly if at all covered in video games.

I'd be all for it, but what do you think? Is it still too touchy of a subject to be handled by a video game? Is it too irrelevant? Please feel invited to tell me.

Not that I know off OP, Mafia III had some aspects of the IRA which caused some outrage in northern ireland but off the top of my head, can't think of any games that featured the troubles.

Fun tidbit for you, the North Koreans actually trained some of the Irish for that conflict.

Back on topic, I’m not sure why there aren’t any games about it. Maybe it is too soon.

Nobody said anything about a Grand Theft Auto game. What are you refering to?

No, it would be. The Troubles were a conflict with about 50.000 total casualties and a lot of battles taking place. Please elaborate on your claim

In short; trying to stay in good taste.

The Troubles are still very much a part of contemporary history in this part of the world, far from forgotten in many quarters. Whilst someone could produce such a game they would likely face a pretty harsh reaction. It would likely be akin, if not worse, to when that guy modded the Israeli and Palestinian states into a tactic game.

By and large video games like to cleave to supposed clean conflicts where there is percieved to be a clear villian. Hence the plethora of WWII shooters. They stay away from more modern conflicts, or heavily fictionalise them. The Troubles involved ongoing issues, and paint a major Western power in a pretty unpleasant light.

Because they have to make Japan the hidden boss of the game since they used some illegally modded AR-180, licensed AR-18 semi-auto version made by Howa.

So all that talk after the hebdo cartoons incident was nothing but hot air because the terrorists did win didnt they. How did the infinitesimal groups at both ends of human behavior end up ruling the world.

Thanks a lot for your reply! I do see your points and I was in fact kind of worried that a game like this might open up some wounds that didn't heal yet. I think that if we give it some years and a game with a careful tone and human message would perhaps be possible to shine some light on this very interesting conflict. I could imagine something along the lines of Valiant Hearts. I do agree with you though, once more, thanks for your reply!

If you want to say something, then why don't you make your own points instead of just taking the ones of other people? I find such behaviour very unhelpful, especially since I have elaborated on the latter statement.
