And on the note of shoulder swapping, I prefer just having my character in the center of the screen and the camera zoomed out.
my experience with this is these games really only do TPS or FPS well while implementation of the other isnt all that great, and probably better off not implemented at all

and a good example of the opposite are elder scrolls games.. while not a shooter per se, going into 3rd person mode just doesnt work well
But if steam had a socom (third person) I would play the hell out of that because of how good Socom is.
you do make a point with cover shooters being quite unrealistic with that ability.. regular TPS as well because nobody can actually see around a corner without exposing themselves
