Why is pop music these days so bad, and why do people like it?

Objectively, modern pop songs have really stupid lyrics. Sometimes they try to force a rhyme and then the lyrics feel like nonsense.

I'm still impressed that those piano melodies get millions of views. I've found piano music that I'd consider better, but most of it gets less than 100k views.

Same reason as always the bottom feeders get the most exposure leaving behind the real talent to become unknown. For them they are just doing it for fame, and money. They only care about themselves, and to keep on top they lower themselves by allowing others to take control of everything to give them the most exposure so they can just rake in the cash.

I love all types of music from classical to rap and I find piano music is so chilling/relaxing to listen too.

But pop music is pretty good, try listing to pop music from the 80s, now thats too much cheese on pizza.

I’ve never really thought pop was particularly good. There are a few songs that stand out, that have pretty good lyrics, but the songs themselves aren’t enjoyable enough to me to justify listening to them.

In saying that, it’s all down to personal opinion. Some people might love modern pop music, others (those with good taste :P) don’t.

Good thing is, you don't have to care if you don't like popmusic. People said that 5 years ago, 10 years ago, it is nothing new. You'll always remember a few gems out there.

It's impossible not to encounter it though, because everyone else seems to be playing it. I don't want to have heard Despacito, but I have.

Kind of, not really. It's mostly directed at pop music, not music in general. Remember that he said he liked piano music, and his example was a song that was made just a few years ago (I think).
