It takes more effort to like valuable and good things, bad things are easy to like because they are shallow and you can like them in a mindless way. When many people "like" the same thing their "shared appreciation" reinforces itself like a loop, and when certain song get played very often at the radio, in clubs and so on they become popular and people begin top like them just because they have heard them often. They are too laazy or too busy to search for something better and as I said better things often takes more time ands effort to be appreciated and many people don't want to put so much effort into listening to music.

Mainstream pop music basically works like internet memes. You can listen it anywhere, you don't need to know it and / or understand it to appreciate it, everybody else has heard it and know what you are talking about if you want to talk about it.

Pop music is a business. It's music, reduced to the lowest common denominator, with an eye on predictability and marketability. In other words, it's not about art. Like any other business, it's about money.

Sure; a song's chances of popular is usually determined by the marketing and industry appeal that it holds. This has been true for a long time, but standards do change over time. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is mostly opinion based.

Pop music is still pleased with some individuals. Sure it might be "bad" by many standards.

But most valley guys/girls liked the song. Not us incels. And that by itself cancels out.

I'd be lying if I said I was a fan of either. What really appeals to me is people doing new, weird things. Anything that comes from Death Grips is a fantastic example. Of course, we all are allowed to have our opinions. Hopefully.

I wish Death Grips got more recognition, but the fact that any of their songs got over 1 million views is extremely impressive in itself...
