Oh yeah. I can tell some serious stories- half laughing/half not while typing.
I definitely had also wondered about the online personality mixes- as with all multi-player games.
How would you rate the AI if played solo?
For this game? Back in the day, it got pretty challenging. Nowadays, the campaign seems half tutorial, half challenge. Most of the missions can be completed with a "sit for a minute then attack everywhere at once" kind of playstyle, but that can also be mixed because you can leave missions to chance. You don't "have" to RTS every mission, and you can fail and it will change the outcome.
I'd give the AI as I remember it a solid 8.5/10. It's early 2000s AI that move like StarCraft AI, but in WWII uniforms.

already have C&C, and too broke for CoH3 atm lol. I'm looking for the A&A more for the nostalgia than anything :)
MODDB is the place to go for mots and such recommend Overlord if only to get the AA.exe which works better in win 10/11
For Win 11 if get errors trying to launch the game
Insure files in Allies and Axis folder are unblocked
Then Data execution prevention has to be turned off (DEP) for AA.exe
For me it can crash in 15min or so, save often
The games suggested here still differ significantly enough from it to stand apart for example the This game vs board game:
Strong RTS element in all modes, campaign, random map, custom map, build bases attack and demolish enemy troops aircraft ships and bases.
The World map view has one buying tech and some upgrades then move on the map, end turn.
Afterwards any territories entered can be fought RTS style or auto-resolved.
RTS has up to 20 player units divided into various types of troop formations and vehicle formation.
Planes can be summoned for airstrikes (one has a bit more visual feedback from planes on the battlefield over Company of Heroes, for example, perhaps a bit more like Panzer Claws.
Plus one can build AAs to defend against air.
Mods can speed up plane strike time as well as increase number of units and buildings on an RTS map.
And it is a proper RST with real pause to look at map, give orders, speed adjust between 25% to 400%, mouse scroll zooms in (many modern RTS totally LAME in that regard today, no pause, no speed adjust in Singleplayer)
I gave it up back in the day because it is definitely "grindy" in the sense me or AI were blowing each others stuff up magnificently however, it would take a long time for either of us to get ahead and after awhile that did not seem all that interesting .
However, I try again and meat grinding in Guadalcanal (the AI attacked another part of the map unexpectedly and I had to shelve all clever plans; bug-out, regroup, and rebuild).
This game makes one very aware of supply and to a certain extent army regiment division and corps organization.
** Sorry I didn't spot it.
I have the old PC version (The original computer release) and it's true to the boardgame.
Later version have issues, change the rules, etc.
The boardgame is fantastic! Many hours spent watching one of the players flip the board... :)
